how to keep your grow safe: your best advice?

wanted to ask y'all your best ideas to keep your grow from being busted.

    some standard thoughts:

    1. don't tell anyone
    2. manage your electricity, use less electricity around the house
    3. if a cop does show up, don't let them in; if they have a warrant they won't ask permission
    4. manage your odor
    5. manage your light leakage
    6. lock your growroom securely

anyway, i'm starting my first grow in about a week, and i'm very paranoid about it. i'm in an appt, and i'm renting. the paranoia is good though, it'll keep me safe. i wanted to gather the most essential pearls of wisdom from you veterans on how to stay safe. what's your best advice?

    1. don't tell anyone - Absolutely A#1 most important

    2. manage your electricity, use less electricity around the house - Not as big a deal as people think unless you are going big time / large scale

    3. if a cop does show up, don't let them in; if they have a warrant they won't ask permission. - True

    4. manage your odor - Yes

    5. manage your light leakage - Yes

    6. lock your growroom securely - Yes, real securely. Two type of locks. Secure the door jam. Make it so someone would have to break down a wall to get in.

    Others:
    1. Don't deal if you have a grow room in your own house or on your property or where you rent or whatever.

    2. Don't constantly turn your friends and relatives onto weed that looks and smells like it's been home grown. Make sure its completely dry. Press it between two boards with a heavy weight for a few days so it looks like it was bricked.

    3. Don't always be the one who has a seemingly unlimited supply of bud and does't really seem to be concerned about the expense of it. Don't be overly generous.

    4. Don't forget about noise control. (The sound a fans, exaust, ventilation odor filters). Should not be audible from outside the room / closet. Soundproof the walls and door if needed.

    5. Don't constantly be discarding grow type garbage in your trash (empty soil bags, perlite bags, planting cups and containers, etc. Save it up in large hefty bags. Throw them in your trunk discretely and take them to a dumpster.
Burn in your fireplace or otherwise get rid of all old plant material. Dont have any more shit around than what you absolutely need to keep things going.

    6. Keep any type of contraband, papers, pipes etc in a locked box of some kind.

And take it from someone who has been there, your significant other can turn into your nemesis in the blink of an eye.
They can just do all the talking that you are careful not to do... they can show your homegrown to their loser friends and brag about it... and then they can fucking rat you out. Oh yeah... that's my favorite one.

i'm sure you've allready thought of this, but just in case make sure all the purchases you make for your grow room make sure there done with cash so theres no hardcopy evidence of you buying pots/nutreints those types of things

Like somebody said. Don't use a credit card for grow related purchases. The same goes from any type of prefered customer card, discount membership card, etc. Also, don't buy all your grow supplies from the same place. Spread it out between a few. For example, don't go to the same store and buy 12 bags of soil and 6 bags of perlite every three months

Yes, and be sure to watch what you throw away too! If the refuse has anything to do with the grow take it to a garbage bin away from the property and make damn sure there's nothing else that can lead back to you with the trash. You don't want your license plate seen at the grow store so either park away from it, take a cab or have a friend do the buying of supplies.

and of course number one, being the number one rule is...KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT! Bragging rights will come later, AFTER you're done.

most households are using very little electricity from the hours of about midnight to 7 am. Besides refrigerators (which only use very little wattage when sitting throughout the night) and figure a few lights left on (60-100w each) and maybe a fan on all night is another 100w. So some 1000w lighting systems would look very suspicious left on 24 hours a day, so 18/6 setups might be a good idea if you are going that route.

i'd tack onto this something i've been thinking: don't buy lights and soil at the same time

on the credit cards: i did order seeds via CC from drchronic, and i did order a light and some grow supplies from insidesun. now, it's not good style to have anything like this on record, BUT for the police to actually view my credit cards i'd have to be under investigation already; if i had any priors (which i don't, just traffic tickets) i would be paranoid enough to not ever use the credit card, and even now, i won't use it again for a long time (if ever), and i'll buy all my other equip locally at walmart and homedepot with cash

one corollary: you don't want to get caught dumping garbage where you're not supposed to, and get someone suspicious, so there's that as well
