Organic Beginnings

Well, since I decided not to grow until I live in california and have a medical license, I decided to help my friend grow. After reading all volumes of the Cannabible, it became obvious that organic bud is superior to non-organic bud, so I urged my friend to go organic. To avoid confusion, I'm just going to say "I have..." as if this was my grow.

To start off, the plants will be in a mixture of Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix. I heard that Miracle Grow was bad, for seedlings, etc... because of the chemicals, but, this was organic, so I assumed it was okay. For those unaware of the ingredients, it says it is formulated from 50-55% composted bark, sphagnum peat moss, pasteurized poultry litter and an organic wetting agent. The N-P-K is 0.10%-0.05%-0.05%. I'll be mixing 80% of this, with 20% perlite. That, along with water set to the correct PH, will be what the plants will survive in, in a small 5" pot, assuming so far, so good (that's where you guys come in handy).

Lights that are to be used are 6 daylight CFLs, each with an equivalant of 100 watts, kept as close to the plants as possible, without burning them. After the plants are around their 4th node, and the cotyledons yellow and fall off, they will be each be transplanted into a 1 gallon pot, containing the same soil mixture of MG Organic and Perlite. I plan on using Shultz rooting hormone, when transplanting time comes, unless you guys advise me not to.

Once transplanted, the plants will obviously need to be fed, and that is where I need your help. Since this is an organic grow, what do I start feeding the plants? Keep in mind, that I'm looking for inexpensive products (IE: can be purchased at wal-mart).

I plan on vegging for a total of 6 weeks, and then flowering by switching to 12/12. I plan on vegging 24/0 during the veg state. Once I flower, I plan on adding an addition 6 CFLs each equivalant to 100 watts, except the warm light version. That way, I will have 12 CFLs. 6 daylight, 6 warm, all together equivilant to 1,200 watts.

The seeds are bagseed, from a nice hybrid strain. The other seed options were 3 Nirvana White Widow Seeds (which I do not wish to germinate until I know I can successfully grow), and a pure sativa strain. I'd like to have chosen the sativa, but, I feel it's best for outdoor growth when I'm living in the northern california, not under CFLs, that's why I chose the hybrid seeds. The buds had indica-dominant growth characteristics (fat tight buds), although bright green with a nice taste/smell, and a pleasant well balanced high. The few leaves that were left on the buds, were trichome covered, and didn't appear indica dominant or sativa dominant, but a nice balance. So like I said, I chose this hybrid to grow, because if I can get bud near as good as what it came from, I'd be happy, and obviously it will be better than what it came from, since it will be sensi this time, and organic.

Please let me know if this plan sounds okay, as the seeds are currently germinating, and all materials are ready.

..well, looks like you've done your homework..sounds like a good plan...as far as cheap ferts available at walmart..may i suggest alaskan fish emulsion..about 6 bucks i think..and they have rootone as well
..the only thing i can suggest would be using a larger pot than 1 gallon once your ready to flower....and remember this bigest problems most newbies have....overwatering...and ph problems..anyway..good luck and have fun
