Are P2P (kazaa, etc) and BitTorrent (Bittorrent, ABC, etc) file sharing programs going to ruin the music and film industries? I'd like to think what people think..

It won't ruin it completely but it will prevent bands from seeing the money they would see if the kazaa and shit didn't exist

ruin? matter of opinion. revoloutionize, yes. If these corporations don't wake up and smell the future, then they will one day awake to the startling realization that they are sitting in the midst of a crumbling empire, and they have no way to salvage their once vast and mighty reach...there are some, that are catching on...piracy will exist as long as there is means and reason to do so. I can download all the latest movies a day after they come out in theatres, I can get entire discographys of musicians with a few mouse clicks, but it is still something I would have to do...at the same time, I can go to a flea market booth, ask for 'the list' and then purchase the same movies, already burned to a DVD, and then rewatch it on my own time at my own leisure. what do I care if my $10 goes to a pirate or to the company?

this is what happens when you use media that costs all of $4 to create and try to sell it for $35. maybe someday soon they'll realize that?

it isn't going to fuck them up... the bands don't really make any money off the cd's anyways, the companies do... THe bands make money from concerts... And anyways tru fans still will buy the cd's... they want the artwork and they dont want a shitty cdr... I use kazaa alot... but for me its pretty much like a preview... if i like what i download, im gonna buy it... and the main thing i download is the music videos cuz MTV can lick my balls. They never play anything good anymore... I HATE RAP, I HATE HIP HOP (except for KMK) and I HATE PUNK AND POP... and most of all I HATE BRITNEY SPEARS!!!. ive seen "my perogative" a thousand times... but usually i just mute the tv and enjoy britney being a whore

nah they big recording labels are a bunch of bitches! there like the growers that never tell anyone else how to do it right they want to have the corner on the market its a monopoly ((err WAS!)) only a few of the big name labels ever make the big bucks. as a member of a band with NO MONEY!! we add all of our music to kazaa and preform almost every week, we do ok concidering we live in a small town. kazaa and napster are WAY ahead of the big labels they know what the peeps want and give it to them for as little as they can. you have to think big labels got 35 bucks for a CD that might have 12 songs on it and only about 3 of thoses are any good... ((not by choice of the band i;m sure)) they cant compeat with someone selling the same song for 99 cents! and it pisses them off

you dont hear xzibbit or Dr Dre bitching do ya? i dont remember ever hearing OZZY!!the un disputed son of all that is dark pleading with ppl to buy his cd. he hasnt even sent his hellish minions after anyone (( IE lawyers))

the artiest dont care about HOW you get there music they just want you to get it! 35 bucks a CD and they might get 3 bucks or so

last thing i remeber when CDs cost about 15 bucks then came kazaa 20 bucks for a CD napster hit the stage 30!! bucks for a cd they are going the wrong direction!

*sigh* i wander what they are smokeing, cause it must be some rank ass shit!

Bands do make a lot more money from recordings than they used to, but obviously producers make a lot too. P2P wont ruin the industry. The main problem in my opinion is legal downloads. If you get no cd case etc. then legal music is no better than illegal music. CD prices should be halved, that would help a lot. It's the same with software like Microsoft Office. I expect very few private owners actually bought their copy, I didn't and never will at these prices. If they maybe made the price 1/10 of what it is, I, and most other people would be far more willing to buy the legal versions and the companies would probably end up making more money.

You nailed it on the head, my man. I don't care how I get media, either. I'll crack programs; rent movies and then burn them; download music; and by golly, I'll smoke weed too, dammit!!
