Street light HPS??

My buddy had a regular street light fall down near him and they just threw everything away but he saved me the light and I just wanna know if its Hps and what wattage they use? Anyone know.

it is either hps or mh. do you know what color it was? orange or blue?

its probably around a 1000 hps..........but its probably very old and useless. HID bulbs go crappy after a while.

damn! where do you live that they use 1000's? shit, the largest street lamp around here is 400, most being 250

they use a bunch of 400watters for parking garages and building lighting ( ive checked ) and i know the street lights are brighter and more intense than those........i guess it could be 600watts, shit i think ive even seen 750 watts for commercial use, but dont quote me on that

most of them are Hps, i worked for the street dept for 2 summers and was always tryin to find a way to get one. i don't know what watt they use but you can also try sub division signs...although you wanna make sure they aren't using halogen as those are worthless.

ok so i have decided that its a hps and the wattage is... i dono. but the higth is like around 9.5- 10 inches and exactly a spread out hand from tip of thumb to pinkey does this help maby find wattage out???

Look on the transformer. It should tell you exactly what you need to know.
I recommend finding out the wattage and then investing in a horticultural bulb for it.
Be safe though!!! Don't get zapped! The capacitors can still be live even if the power cord is disconnected!

you also need to look at the ballast not only to find wattage but also to see what voltage options are available to run it, as it may not be of any use to you if you cannot run it on standard house current.
