My roommate just got a DUI in Sacramento county and they just gave him time served plus work project plus a bunch of fines and classses and shit. Can you afford a few grand for a lawyer? I hate to say it but we don't call them public pretenders for nothing. Just remember that they get their pay check from the same source as the DA the Judge and the Sherrif's... So now you can see what team they are really on.
