Rut-Row... land lord coming to visit! Eeeech!

I am a medical patient in Santa Cruz, California. I recently left town for three days, and by mistake left some soil in the greens waste container, and the gardener came by to work outside... well, he called the landlord to say he couldnt find the container (I left it in the garage, he has access to it, so I'm not sure why he said he couldn't find it)

Anyhow, I got an email from my land lord saying she was going to come down on the 19th of April and was curious what time would be good. It seems quite coincidental that all of the sudden she wants to come to the house, but I really can't draw any clear conclusions about weather or not the gardener found it... told her, and she just made up a lie to say he couldn't find it... which to me don't make much sense if she is suspicious.

Getting to the important part, I am in between cycles right now, and have dedicated a 10X9 room for growing marijuana for medicinal. The local Government says this is 100% legal and I even believe land lords CANT even evict patients for growing herb. However, when signing the lease, she used a very generic lease, and also included a paper saying no illegal drugs would be cultivated/sold/trafficed at the house.

The room will look like an office when she comes down, but I am curious what you guys think of this situation. Because I signed that paper, if she DOES find out whats going on... that's breach of contract and could result in her asking us to leave and her keeping the deposit (4 thousand dollars)

Can another medical patient share with me any experiences with stuff like this? Am I required by law to let her know what I'm doing in the house prior to moving in to completely protect myself? I don't believe I am.

Trying to not be paranoid, but it's seems quite coincidental the one time I slip up a tad, now she wants to see the house. What y'all think?

Well the only way she can keep your deposit is if you have done any damage to the property.

If she figures out I am growing herb she might be tempted to just ask me to leave (and I would have no problem with that) and take the deposit given that I breached the contract and might have a decent case in court against me. I think ultimately a court would rule that the money should be given back minus damage to the house.

Just not 100% if for me to be protected fully by the state I need to tell someone I am a grower before living in their house.

well for you my friend, under california state law, marijuana is not an illegal drug. It is your medicine. If you have any friends who are lawyers, you may ask them about this situation. But it would make much more sense for her to disregard it considering it helps you...Life threatening illness or not, marijuana improves your quality of life, and you need to grow it. good luck my friend

be smart, dont explain, dont rationalize or make excuses and dont over think the situation.......
get a Uhaul, put u r junk inside, run a cable from u r house for pumps n all the rest u may need for the day. then clean up the room so the land lord has no idea and so as you dont piss off or offend.

no questions, no lies, no stories, no shit.

now, if its ok 2 grow by law n all that crap, its still not your house. If you were really truthful and honest ask the landlord if its ok to grow your medication, after all you have permits and the law allows it so you say. you can even go so far as to post u r permit on your door so the asshole cops dont bust it in looking to make the news.

stop sneaking around be responsible about it and grow up

Be responsible about it? I thought I was by getting the medical license. The only dishonest thing I did was not tell the land lord what I was planning to do. With the sprawl here in California, it's tough enough to find housing as is... if I was to tell landlords I was planning to grow herb... ha, good luck finding a place. I already do have a permit on the door, as well as registered with the county.

My plan is to put all the junk in a UHaul as said above... alot of work but such is life!
