Mold most certainly does NOT come from being overly dry, lol. And airtightness can worsen a case of mold already forming...

Mold can be transmitted through airborne spores. It can get on any organic matter and start a colony, and weed is most certainly organic.

Humidity and warmer temperatures foster the mold, so if the weed has gotten wet or was stored before it was fully dry there could easily be a mold colony forming. Especially when the weed is stored in an airtight container, if mold has the opportunity to form, it will.

Wet weed + airtight container = mold

Now, don't get me wrong, airtight containers are not bad, unless you have moist weed that you want to make sure doesn't mold.
