Well, I did a little research and what I've found is that the brisque firing (the first firing) is very important as it burns off certain chemicals and impurities, and it is done at a few thousand degrees... So no, a kitchen oven cannot be used as a kiln.
Buck268 Reviewed by Buck268 on . Clay? I was thinking about making a new piece using clay as the bowl (I adhor metal bowls). Does anybody know anything about working with clay? Should I bake it (like in a kiln) or will I be ok smoking out of an 'unfinished' clay bowl? If anybody actually knows something about clay, can I bake it in a common kitchen oven? If so, at what temp for how long? Rating: 5
