New Pet Rat

I just picked up a new pet rat, ive had a few in the past & they were really good pets. This new one though, shits and pisses like theres no tomorrow when i take him out o his cage. Its such a scared rat, i really want it to learn not to piss on me because i love to take out nd play with my pets. I tried petting it in its cage and it lets me do that but it still gets shook whenever i try to pick it up. Any ideas guys???

Just like any critter , It'll take a lil time for them to get used to you .
Treats help too , all my rats loved to be spoiled .

I just love rats!! They make such good pets!:thumbsup: Mine seemed to just stop peeing and pooping on me as they got older. I always had a shoebox or some kind of house for them to run in to on the couch. When I was home they had the run of the couch(covered of course), and they always seemed to go potty in and around their house, not on me. My cats loved playing with them too. I once had one named Missy that I had a harness and leash(sp?) for and I carried on my shoulder almost everywhere I went. She would nibble on my neck when she wanted down to go potty. Never did pee on me. :stoned:

maybe it wasnt treated well when it was younger and thinks you're going to hurt him/her. Just keep loving it.

Jennifer, i used to have another rat that i would take everywhere too, he would stay in my pocket if i was going somewhere that a rat would seem "unfashonable".
