Planting in March, then come back for harvest in October
Preparing the spot is important. Also, if you mulch around the plant it will do better during excessively wet and dry times and keep the competative weeds from starting. I use the local weeds for mulch and it does look stealthy.
I hate to weed, so I do the same in the garden. Mulch hay is great. Tempers the miosture and ground temperature and keeps your shoes clean when it's wet (instead of mud).
