redneck is not a derogatory term, its a lifestyle.

People use it as a derogatory term on this board. If you do a search of the word, there are numerous examples of it being used in a hateful context. Negative stereotyping is forbidden against some groups, but allowed to be used on others. This is unfair.

I agree with this 100%, although, at the moment, i've been lucky enough never to be called white trash or a redneck.

Double standards - it's like blokes sleeping around is ok, but as soon as a woman does it shes a slut.

I think the word ni&&er in any context is wrong,,,I had a hard time writing it in this sentence... Redneck and White Trash are acceptable because Rednecks and White Trash are proud of it and appreciate the recognition...

It seems to be accepted among themselves and becomes a friendly word at that point... I am white and in any context it is racial... Native Americans don't like to be called Indians but,,, as a group they are not as vocal as black people... if there was a native American Martin Luther,Al sharpton and Jesse J,,, I would think the word Indian would go on a list of words not to say...

Any word delivered in a disrespectful way is wrong... Why is one word more than another more tolerated is basically voice opposing it,,, IMHO...

The following posts are just a small sample of the types of prejudice I am referring to. This is pure hate. Try substituting another racial epitaph for "redneck" in these messages, and imagine what would happen if they were posted like that.

no offense to any one thats a redneck, but i hate stupid rednecks in lifted trucks!. I was merging onto the freeway and some assholes in a lifted chevy tried to cut in and i didnt let him so he was all pissed. Then he pulls next to me and him and hes fat friend start yelling shit out the window throwing stuff and they try to swerve into me. I was so baked and this just ruined my high. Yeah rednecks piss me off. I go to partys out here in the Michigan countryside and if your a stoner you better bring friends with you or your gonna get jumped. They like to fuck with stoners for some reason. Then theres wannabe redneck kids who wear john deere and the chicks like them because of this. Stoners get looked at like criminals and the beer swillin rednecks are considered cool. I just dont get it. Now dont get me wrong i have some hillbilly friends but when rednecks get together at a party there assholes. I had a friend who got pushed by a redneck and his hand broke through a car window. My friend started beating the shit out of him then 5 rednecks jumped him and started kicking the shit out of him. Now for one it was bullshit because the kid he was orginally fighting deserved it and 2 my friend is only like 5'7 and he got his ass kicked by a group of kids that where all bigger than him. Now i dont know if all rednecks around the country act this way but the ones around here do. They talk shit, and when someone stands up for themself they get jumped by 5 other kids. It's kinda sad that around here those are considered the "cool" kids.

But it's not a problem! They don't have to "clean up" anything - just make the system put asterisks for these offensive words, like it does for others. I posted the lyrics to an offensive rap song which contains the n word, that claims Bush knocked down the Twin Towers, and the system did it automatically.
