Hey guys i just wanted to ask what you guys know about being emancipated and stuff. I am going to become emancipated from my parents soon because my life is a living hell. Im 16, almost 17 now and im planning on moving to arizona and living near my brother or moving to northern california. My parents said theyre willing to sign the papers. I just wanna know some basic things, oh and has anyone been emancipated on this site? Thanks for your input, and live freely

Its most definately a daily thing. I just wanted to know do i already have to have a job and a place to live before the papers are signed, and will i get grants from the government for college? I merely wish for a little imput. Right now i cant stand my parents, and the feeling is mutual, they constantly drive me into a negative tailspin whenever theyre around. I am pretty good with my finances, and have a couple thousand dollars saved up and i just want to share an apartment with someone in northern california or arizona. I just dont know how to go about this. I am absolutely ready to be gone, i just need to know how to go about doing so. Thanks for your imput and live your own life

you usally have to show that you have enough income to support yourself before you can be emancipated amongst other things. O and also you have to have a pretty clean crimal backround definetly nothing recent. at least in michigan. might be different where your from. and theres always those special circumstances but seeing as how you have internet and asking about it I'd have to say you pretty privalaged ........... but what ever floats your boat

I have tried counseling but my parents wont listen to what the counselor has to say, never admitting that it might be them that is partially at fault. This is a last resort, i can not take the constant crap i have to deal with, its too much of an emotional burden on me. Im pretty self sufficient, im an alright student, a boy scout, and i have a good grip on my finances.

Its not about privelages, its about treatment. Im treated like shit, and im living like shit. Its just a really really crappy situation out here. Its not that im poor or physically abused, i have been mentally abused, and my parents no longer wish for me to be around. Im not wanted here, but more importantly, i do not wish to be here.

I don't know your situation just teens tend to exaggerate if not create themselves. but again I don't know your life I'm just stating characteristics of the average teen. But getting an apartment while under 18 emancipated or not is damn near impossible here hopefully your areas nicer on these things but remeber there's gas, electric, rent, food, security deposit, and everyother expense you may have. couple thousand bucks doesn't last that long. not trying to talk you into it or out of it just letting you know cause noone told me.

You can't survive in cali without money...its pretty hard. Everything here is expensive as fuck. Weed, clothes, shelter, food. Everything. Move to Arizona and when you are older move to cali.

Ya i already live in southern california, everything is expensive. Its just one trade for another, i figure that i will have to pinch all my pennies to survive, but i will also get out of my house mentally stable. I'm having an extremely tough time now, and the future will be very tough too, but its just something that im going to face. Im trading one tough life for another.
