pipe problem
ive seen glass screens before, they're like little glass jacks (the game you the ball and jacks) you put one in the bottom of the pipe if the hole is too big, they're a pain in the ass at first cause they dont stay there, but once they get a good coating of resin they'll stay put.
higher4hockey Reviewed by higher4hockey on . pipe problem ok someone gave me this moderately crapy glass pipe a while black, but i discovered it actually hits pretty well, the only problem is, it has a larger then average hole on the bottom of the bowl... now i have an extra screen, but i know it can break the pipe, but otherwise the pipe is useless anyway, so i figured ill put the screen in their and if it breaks at least it had some use instead of none... is their any other reason why i shouldnt use a screen? i counldnt see how a metal screen could get so hot it cracks the glass condisering pipes are meant to withstand flame.....which is very hot..and theres no way a screen could get any hotter than the flame your putting on it

This is not posted to further drive a point to you,,, it's just what I read while searching...
most of the stuff on glass screens is about the taste as oppossed to the taste brass might give... I think glass screen makers would drive home a point like cracking to sell product...

Metals expand quite a bit when heated, whereas glass doesn't. If the screen gets bigger, it could expand into the glass and cause it to crack.

Well, the pipe itself will also get hot, so i doubt it'd crack it. But, just put a small bud in the whole, and then the rest over it, and when you smoke it the small bud should stop the ash being pulled through.

It's consistant use of a metal screen in a glass pipe that can cause the bowl to break. However, it depends alot on the size and material of the screen and whether or not the glass is Pyrex or simply a softer glass...
I have seen it happen but at the same time my hash pipe has a metal screen in it and has for quite a while. It's a fairly thick glass..
If the glass is more than 4 or 5mm thick than i'd say you should be okay.
Use the screen! The idea of eating ash isn't what i would call a good session.
