All jokes aside, as we all know, a common side effect from light to heavy use of cannabis is of course....short-term memory loss. I'm sure we've all experienced it at one time of another. Although only a temporary effect during stages of use, I see a lot of daily/medical users out there that may like to use this info.

Anyway, I figured this may help some people's quality of life possibly...

5-Hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP is a naturally-occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin ("happy juice") and an intermediate in tryptophan metabolism. It is marketed in the US and other countries as a dietary supplement for use as an anti-depressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid.

Reductions in serotonergic tone are partially responsible for cognitive deficits (memory loss) resulting from tetrahydrocannibinol (THC, the active component in marijuana).

When taken as a supplement, 5-HTP can significantly attenuate THC-induced memory impairment.

5-HTP causes fewer side effects, if any, than traditional antidepressants.


So, yeah, just some information for whoevers interested. I've personally taken it on a few occasions for other reasons, but this information really struck me as the potential to 'make a whole lot of sense'. Serotonin effects mood, among other things, which in return effects memory. It's also a natural alternative for depression/anxiety, if you have problems with that. I actually noticed after a day or two of use (not weeks like prescription), I felt pretty good about things (not that I didn't before, but it was still a noticable lift I guess you could say).

It's pretty cheap too...you can get 50 or 100mg capsules at any health store (GNC, etc.), for like $5-15 depending on size and brand.

i use 5htp, all it is is synthetic seretonin, you get higher when you take it while you smoke cause it gives your brain more seretonin to push out at one time. its fun stuff and even gives you a great good mood feeling hwne taken by itself
