But food? No way! It's in the garbage for a reason, and even though it might be wrapped up still, it's still in the garbage, sourrounded by bacteria of other rotting things. That's nasty, very nasty.

I AGREE : ) BUT there are exceptions like the ham, or take and bake pizza, my little bro used to call the take and bake pizza place like 20min before they closed and place an order, then he would wait untill they closed and because he never came to but it they just toss it in the trash, all wrapped up and everything
so fresh that the dough hadnt even rizen

I was brought up better than that and If my dad saw me do that, he would probably cry.

I understand that another mans trash is another mans treasure, I am the king of that with auto parts. I make ~500.00 a month selling/dealing 4x4 parts in the offroad community. I have alot of things that were once on the curb.

my dad is proud of my dumpster finds : ) i showed him about the lottery ticket thing and between us we have found probably 3 or 4 grand in winning tickets that people threw away over the last 10 years or so
and auto parts and tools : ) yeah dont even get me started on all the good parts and tools i have found

THERE ARE QUITE A FEW THAT SAY NOT TO WASTE, finding something that your fellow man is about to "waste" and making good use out of it for youself can only be a good thing

How does dumpster diving help others?

well for starters it saves space in our landfills but it also helps the economy, anything that can be pulled out of a trash can and sold has value to just let it be trashed destroys a bit of value and value=wealth

My whole family (hispanic) are examples of the value of education. It is hard enough to get along in this world being hispanic. However, my parents *overcame*. How? By persistence and never giving up.

sounds about right, there was a big thing on tv the other day saying how hispanics were responsible for 60% of the things being bought in my area (socal) but they were responsible for 75% of the waste going into our dumps

TONIGHT I'M GOING DIVING AGAIN! wish me luck, its gonne be in the low thirties tonight. we will probably be especially lucky at Borders, they had a clearance sale last week. can you believe they throw out BOOKS?!

yeah i used to live near a barnes&noble and a comp usa they shared a pair of dumpsters i got lots of books and computer parts from them : )

you know what, i double checked on this yesterday while i was working. the popo that i talked to said that once the trash hits the dumpster, it is then property of whoever owns that dumpster,.

some places have passed local laws against it but its still legal most places, the reason it is is bacause the COPS want it that way.
once they make it against the law THEY NEED A WARRANT TO SEARCH YOUR TRASHCAN, BUT AS LONG AS DUMPSTER DIVING IS LEGAL THEY CAN LOOK IN YOUR CAN TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN SMOKING AND I CAN LOOK IN YOUR CAN FOR STUF I CAN USE OR SELL : )


im also an avid metal detector/treasure hunter/ gold prospector i just bought a whites mxt ($800) and i plan to find more with it then i spent on it
i have about another $500 on prospecting stuff and i have only found about $100 worth of gold so far but thats just because i need to get out and do it more ITS HARD WORK

It's cool that you "fight" for something you believe if you're a Freegan. Actually doing something active to make efforts of change.
On the whole imo it will never work, purely because the large majority of the population are not broad enough minded to see why it would do good and wouldn't consider being vegan.
Personally I wouldn't, although I think it's admirable to be a hardcore Freegan.

Go around the rich neighborhoods early in the morning on garbage day. I used to work on the garbage route back when I was in my 20,s and the stuff they'd throw out was insane! Brand new shit with the price tags still on.........crazy!!

Nice way to bump up the porn collection too.
