diffusers make it so instead of a large bubble, the smoke gets broken up into smaller bubbles, leaving you with the same volume of smoke but higher surface area, which lets the smoke cool off more and the water absorb more crap out of the smoke

Yeah difusers and percolators are the way to go as far as bongs go. For thoughs of you guys who dont know what the percolator or difuser is its simple. we all know a bong works by a bowl connected to a down tube that is under water and when you suck the smoke travels from the bowl down the down tube through the water (which is bubbling from the sucking) and up to your mouth and into your lungs. A difuser works in the same way but instead of a strait down tube with one big hole at the bottom, a difuser has a bunch of smaller holes in it. So when the smoke passes through it smoke is forced to contact the water more(more contact with the water means better filtration) A percolator is basicaly the same as a difuser steam just upside downimp:

I have a metal down stem with 2 holes in the sides and one big one in the bottom, and that diffuses it a little bit in my homemade shit... it's definitely better to diffuse it, although some people don't like it
