Ever notice how the one thing that is never brought up about gay marriage is children.....Some gay people are parents like it or not....and by recognizing their union they can get the same tax breaks as conventional parents...they would also be able to get health insurance and other benefits...why should the children suffer because the right wingers don't want civil unions in the main stream? Right wingers have a way of putting their heads in the sand and wishing everything away....

Damn if only that would work....I know what I would wish for.....lol

I'll talk about the effects of having 2 mommies or 2 daddies,if ya want..we can bring this subject up alot,if you wish. I have no doubt,that most folks,whether they're gay or straight,love their children and would not want them to be unhappy. When I watched the episode of Trading Spouses,with the lesbian parents,it was obvious,that they loved their children and the children were happy..however,both I and the Christian mom,were concerned that one of the lesbians,was exposing the children to adult situations,that they should not have exposed them to,without rigid guidelines and strict monitoring.

I'm willing to concede to civil unions,but not marriage..even though,I know that by doing so,we've stepped onto a slippery slope of allowing civil unions for all sorts of blasphemous unions..like bestial,pedophilic or incestous unions.

BTW,in the end,I was ashamed of the actions and words,of the Christian mother and I disagree with her trying to humilate and demean,the lesbian couple..in order to make any progress on this difficult issue..we must have a basic repect for each other..don't ya think so ?

Yup,by being too stern,you do close down lines of communication,however,a child should be able to communicate to some degree..just not to the point where it constitutes being a smart-alec.

Just as we should be fearful of the Wrath of God,we should also be fearful of the wrath of our parents..but if that wrath is just and the child knows it,then it is not terror..but rather , tough love. Those children,who do not fear the wrath of their parents,are usually trouble-makers and git into more trouble. Children should have an absolute,guiding moral authority,in the form of their parents,those children whose parents don't set rules and don't care where their child is..are often un-happy and have life-long problems with authority figures. They also tend to be self-abusive and depressed,and put themselve's into bad situations with bad people who will take advantage of their rebellion against authority.

It feels more right,to a child,to have boundaries and for their parents to not be such a friend,as to loosen up those boundaries of moral conduct and behaviour..they are most secure,when their roles are clearly defined. Until children reach the age of majority and legal status as adults,they should be treated like children..not as little adults,with adult decisions,being forced upon them.

As soon as my daughter turned 18,I began to treat her like an adult..with not only adult freedoms,but adult responsibilty..I told her that she would be responsible for her actions as an adult,in an adult way..and that the law,would expect the same. Before she turned 18,I told her that this was no democracy-that I was the absolute ruler..granted-I was a just and merciful ruler..but at least she knew where she stood in the world..and there was no confusion about that,like there would be,in a household where the children are treated as little adults and not as the children that they are.

I see it with my own eyes, because I'm 25 years old, and my parents aer Italian immigrants who, I believe, brought me up the right way. They're loving, generous, and always provided me with everything I ever needed, and much more. But there was no doubt about who was in charge. There were always strict rules which had to be followed. When I fucked up, I got yelled at, and I fucked up big time, I got a nice smack. But you know what? I grew up just fine. I know my pace in the world. Most importantly, I am aware that I'm not the center of the universe. We've been focusing so hard on making children think each one is special that there's a new generation of people who think they're special and deserve more and better things than others. When everybody's special, nobody is...... Now let's dope up our kids on Ritalin and anti-depressants, cause that can do no harm at 10 years old, right??

However,I disagree with you telling anyone to shut up,if anyone wishes to express themselves,they should be able to do so,even if I don't like what they are saying,I also disagree with juggalo tellin anyone to shut up..we need to know what each other is thinking..I'd rather that juggalo try to come to terms with me..than have him shut up. Not being their friends doesn't mean I wouldn't love and respect them. By definition, friendship implies a relationship between equals, and that's where the parent-child relationship is different. I think it is absolutely not a good idea to treat your children, at least until they're 18 or otherwise mature enough, as the parents' equals.

Obviously, that doesn't mean you don't love and respect them.
