The Magical Hat

I just rememembered in 4th or 5th grade, the counselor came in to give us all a lesson on drugs. She told us she would read us a story, and then handed us all copy-machine versions of the picture book, it was called "The Hat" or "The Magical Hat". Anyway, it was a lame anti-drug attempt. I just remembered it, so I'll tell you the story (well the parts I remember).

There was a boy, I don't remember what his name was, but he was the main character. Oh by the way she explained to us that the "hat" is a metaphor used in the book, and that we'd talk about what it was, after the story.

Well the kid, he's at school or something, and someone gives him the hat and tells him to put it on and he'll like it, etc... so he puts on the hat.

then, he's in his room, with the hat on, and his mom walks in his room, and can tell or something, or he tells her.

He tells her he doesn't like it, and that he won't do it again, and she gives him a lesson on peer pressure, and he said he feels funny, etc... He takes off the hat.

Then, the stories over, and the counselor wanted us to guess what the hat was. I didn't guess, because it was lame, but everyone guessed random drugs, and she's like "No it's marijuana". and then talked about how dangerous it was.

She was a fucked up woman. She would always tell us not to smoke, but we always would see her around town in restaurants smoking. We also saw a pack of cigarettes in her car in the parking lot one time.

When she taught us about tobacco, she bought a pack of Red Man chewing tobacco, and had us all smell it, and then she showed us skoal, and had us all pass it around to smell it.

i've had too many of those types of things and i try to forget them because it's just a bunch of bullshit.
