Fruit allergy?
I'm on a new diet and trying to eat a lot healthier. I like to eat like oranges and bananas and such for breakfast but I've been developing a weird itching sensation in my mouth. My dad is deathly allergic to bananas an allergy that didn't develop until his teen years. Is it possible that the same thing may be happening to me? I was completely tolerant of milk and then 2 years ago I became lactose intolerant out of the blue... too much Dairy Queen probably.
The fruits that seem to bother me are like apples, oranges, and bananas. Could it be some pesticide that they are using that has been absorbed into the fruit? Pineapple doesn't bother me at all. Or concentrated apple juice.
Any ideas?easy_e Reviewed by easy_e on . Fruit allergy? I'm on a new diet and trying to eat a lot healthier. it could be pesticides if you dont wash the fruit correctly, you could also have and allergy. Or this could be your bodies reaction to your new diet

Fruit allergy?
Here's a website that has information about fruit allergies.
Allergy and Immunology: AAAAI: Itchy Mouth May Be Tied To Produce, Ragweed
"Itchiness of the mouth and throat with mild angiodema (swelling) immediately after eating fresh fruits or vegetables are common symptoms of oral allergy syndrome (OAS)."
Apparently, a lot of people have this.

Fruit allergy?
i never had allergies in my life until about 3 years ago.. same exact thing, starts right away with itchiness in the mouth, then red spots, sneezing, etc.. a benadryl usually takes care of it within minutes.
the first time it happened, i almost died. did the same thing, decided to try to eat helthy, see what it's like.. bought some fruit, got home, ate some. within minutes, my whole face was swollen and red, i was shaking from the cold but pouring sweat. threw up, managed to take an advil (or something similar, i didn't even know what benadryl was back then), and passed out. it was like some shit you see in the movies, except real. next day doctor explained to me what happened, and now i carry benadryl with me. as soon as i feel the ithcing sensation or some other symptom, i take one, and it goes away.
