well i tried to phrase it as a question and i just realized i failed, but is it illegal to bring alcohol on a plane in your luggage if your checking that peice of luggage?

yes it is illegal. BUT we took 5 bottles to cancun with ua last year. Wrap them carefully because the baggage handlers are violent. My buddy had a bottle of hen broken in his bag and it soaked all of his clothes everything.
