I've known an awful lot of men who care a lot about whether or not a woman has a college degree, although I don't see the same sort of fixation on her career success or income. Deep down, they care a lot more about her looks and the way she makes them feel, the warm-fuzzy stuff. But the educated professional men I know are looking for someone who's going to have some intellectual depth as well as good looks. More than anything, I think for them a college degree doesn't itself convey intellectual depth, although the more ideas someone has been exposed to the greater her intellect will likely be. I think they're looking for someone who's going to be a social equal, too, and have the level of sophistication that higher education helps provide. In other words, someone who'll fit in with their crowd. An educated woman will fit into an educated man's "circle" more easily than uneducated ones. Don't get me wrong. At the end of the day, they still decide with their eyes and with their emotions. But men also look at marriage as a business decision. That's where the desire for someone with a similar level of education and sophistication comes in, I think.
