At least we've got it under control enough that now we're actually living in the damn thing. To bring random folks up to speed: we bought a 94 year old house. Yes, we realized it was going to need some TLC, but damn. The chick that owned it before us lied on the paperwork, as did the realtors. It has plumbing issues out the yingyang. We signed on it Feb 23, but couldn't actually move Rating: 5

Wow, look how substantial a real house is! I have a brand new MFR home, and although its tight and warm (and has a warranty ), build quality and components are, shall we say, lacking. Its kinda scary how flimsy the materials are. You actually have real wood in those walls! I think mine are cardboard :P. I figure I'll hang out here for awhile and hope I find the right location and build a stick home.

Does it have counterweighted windows? My old house had those and talk about a potential nightmare.

I am pleased to report that we have all new superdeeduper insulated windows that tilt in for easy cleaning LOL! But yeah, the old timey plaster and lathe construction has challenges of it's own. I'm giggling at the thought of you building a stick home. It reminds me of the Three Little Pigs.

Have any of you ever seen the show "If Walls Could Talk"? Its on HGTV and its about really old homes that people have redone and all the things they learn about the history of the homes and the people that used to live in them. I really like it but I am both a history and design nerd. If you watch it you might get some cool period design ideas if you want to go in that direction for decoration.

Love that show... My house is not old enough,,,but i did find some news papers from the late 40's and a Papst Blue Ribbon can... I love when i'm remodeloing an find old stuff...
