Ballasts
i've got 7 seedlings and 3 cuttings under 250wt hps in a 'Budbox'(growtent) everything fine, another 2-3 weeks and i'll put them onto flower under 600 wts it's just that on the trial run i couldn't keep the temperature under 85-90 degrees(with oscillating and extractor fans) so i was just wondering if it's safe to use a 400wt lamp in a 600wt ballast(Eco-lux) as this should lose me those 5-10 degrees and stop em fryin. I'm no electrician so if this is obviously dangerous apologies can anyone help ? P.S. cuttings=Afghan big bud ,seedlings =Jack Herer

fire alert! fire alert!
use only the specified bulb in the ballast; anything else is a fire waiting to happen...

Thanks for the warning Scarlet,so it looks like i need to purchase a whole new unit( 400wt) it's just that i have 2 x 600wt lights and it seems a shame they're now of no use due to a decrease in growing space. So it's a definite no,no then once again thanks for your time Scarlet

no prob babe;
but however, i think that with a more powerful exhaust, you will be very fine with the six hundred. i'm running a 1000w and a 400w in my flower room, and the temps don't get above 75 with the fan on, but it's a beast of a motherfuck; took me and two guys to mount it and hook it up, i can't even lift the damn thing!!
let me know what you're running, and your options; i think you can get the heat under control... the 6's would be the cats ass, imo

The growtent is 4ftx4ftx6ft with a 8 inch inlet fan from outside and the same size extraction fan (both well disguised) leading outside plus a 18 inch oscillating desk fan at floor level, it has venting flaps on three sides near the bottom,so a more powerful outlet and /or inlet should be the answer (fu"*in obvious when i think about it).Once again i bow to your wisdom Scarlet and will address this problem in a few weeks time when flowering cos as i said they look great at the moment under 250wts ,70 degrees steady. Incidently i've been growing for some years now but grew in a loft or outside building where temparatures were alot easier to control and being discreet wasn't so much of a problem where as now i'm in a back bedroom (in a tent ) with neighbours very close by . I'll try to post some pics at some point ,bye for now
