your fixture's will work wonderfully for the first stage of life. however, you need to replace the bulbs. go to lowe's, and get four GE daylight bulbs. they're about 6 bucks each, but well worth it; 6500k, 3050 lum, 40w. i've vegged exclusively with these before (eight plants) with no probs, and only a minor stretch.

the cool thing (heh) about the daylight tubes is that they don't put out heat; therefore, you can let the light touch the leaves, allowing for good tight node spacing.
