i don't smoke becuase it's good for me, i know what it's doing to me, the problem is, i'm a 16 year smoker now... soemthing like a 14 year pack a day smoker... it's not so easy to just kick the habbit, and i have tried atleast 20 times... my longest quit was 3 months... then my wife got hit by a car and i was losing my mind... so i picked up a pack and haven't stopped since.... if i'm not mistaken (i'm bad with dates) this has been nearly a year now...

when i'm not going through a nic fit, i'll sit there and say "this is my last pack" low and behold, 20 mins later, i can't take it and i'm opening a new pack and insulting my own self for being so weak....

as far as addiction, side efffects and LONG term consequences go, i agree, tobacco is the worst of the worst.. not to mention it gives the user very little enjoyment... the first cig of the day, and the cig after a meal is about as high as the enjoyment gets, and that's very little...

now as far as short term consequences (namely instant death), danger and price go... there are worse things out there... but they atleast give the user some enjoyment... hard drugs only kill a small fraction that tobacco does, but the hard drugs do it instantly, while you won't pick up a cig and die 5 mins after smoking it.... kills by far more people, but it takes awhile. if cigs had instant death... well i can garuntee there'd be a whole shitload less users...

those are just my thoughts on the subject.
