American accents
I grew up in Houston and favor Southern-sounding accents most of the time. I think that's only because it's what I'm most familiar with, not because the sound itself is more euphonious. The international accents I enjoy hearing the most are Canadian, British, Australian, Spanish, and Indian, and I again think that's because they're the ones I most commonly hear.
Dave Byrd Reviewed by Dave Byrd on . American accents What do people from outside the US think of our accents? Weird? Funny? Cute? Annoying? People always say "I have the correct American accent," and you're always thinking "No, their accent is wrong, mine is normal." It's pretty funny. East coast versus west coast accents? Local accents? I just have a regular North American accent. I used to have certain dialectal features to my speech (for example, I grew up merging the phonemes /O/ and /a:/ so I said "cot" and "caught" the same way), but I've spent a lot of time studying languages and dialects and stuff and taught myself to lose a lot of that. Listening to me, you could easily find out I'm from America or Canada, but you wouldn't be able to tell where, except that I'm not from a place where they have heavy dialects like Boston or the Deep South.
