some help with loading bowls?

i have a few pipes and a bong and my friends keep telling different ways to load the bowls. Should i bust my weed up a lot, should it be kind of clumpy, should a just stick in a part of my bud, should it be different for a pipe bowl than a bong bowl?

I was just wondering why you call it bowls in your country ,as we call it cones ,its all cool just a bit of a Americanisms that hasn't been brought out here yet and believe me there is plenty to influence the majority of our culture.
