Where do you dump your used nutes?
I am currently growing in hydro and I have a question for all the hydro growers out there. Where is a good place to dump used nutes that is safe for the environment? Where do you dump your nutes? I am actually thinking about going back to soil because I feel like I am not doing good for the environment everytime I dump my nutes when I change my resevoir. Am I wrong in my thinking? Is there a place to put the nutes that wont fuck up the water? I heard that many people just flush down the tub - is this safe for our water supply?

down the toilet:thumbsup:

down the drain of the tub. Nutes are GREAT for the environment. dump them outside if you want to really help shit grow.
Where do you dump your used nutes?
Isnt all the excess fertilizer harmful to the environment and bad for the water supply or am I trippin?

Plant some roses in your garden and pour the water in the soil. They'll love it and you'll have a million roses and no worries about weed smells anymore, lol.

Yes, very bad. Some bodies of water would be damaged. Excess fertilizer can cause algae blooms which can harm the ecosystem.

Sorry I had to stop laughing at some of the replies.
Look you ingest the plant youâ??re growing right, you either smoke it or you use in food.
So if it does not harm you and it does not then don't think the used nutrients are a problem. They are just minerals found in nature everywhere but come from other sources, they are still minerals.
If you have plants around your house in the ground then water them with your discard nutrients. Water your grass with them or you can just toss them down the toilet is fine too. ALL waste water in the USA is process so don't worry about that. It's illegal for them to just dump it in the ocean or anything like that. (Not that they probably don't do it, but that's not your fault)
YOU are doing nothing wrong or anything that will harm the planet except but show the gov that you can care for your own medical needs with no help or interference from them.
That's how I look at it anyway.

Well, what I think I might do is plant more flowers or maybe even a crop of some type outside. I dont have a huge area but whatever. I just have been thinking about algae blooms and this very polluted ocean that I live near and wonder if I am doing something that might fuck it up. Maybe I have been watching too much Al Gore but I dont want to pollute any more than is absolutly necessary.

I scratch my head on this. . . would used nuts be any worse then human poo? Toliet no doubt if you are worried, i do like the idea about pouring it into the rose bushes, think I'll try that on my next water change. If not I'll just pour it into the grass on the yard and let the grass catch a meal. I really can't find a reason it would be bad at all to put nuts into the word again. . .
I've thought about catching rain water and using that in my hydro, anyone try that before? Bad idea or no? Suggestions welcome

Zandor in Manitoba the government wants the farmers here to use less fertilizer in there fields because its damaging our 2 major lakes here. too much algea.but i assumme their is other factors also

Tomasinho if you are growing for personal use the amount of fert you dump in your soil wouldn't even make it to the ocean...if you are concerned about a build up of nutes just spread the nutes out around your lawn and other plant sites fairly evenly and you should be fine...
And to comment on the farmers...they are growing fields and fields of plants so yes when you are spraying 100,000 gallons of fertilized water a week I'm sure it could have an affect but for the isolated case of dumping a 20gallon res, it just isn't enough to damage anything...most likely the nutes you dump in will be used in the general area you dumped them by the plants that are already growing...
Peace and happy cultivating

Everything in moderation. Giant 100,000 square foot geen houses do treat their water so they don't damage the environment...but who the hell how much water they use. I think your average growers few gallons a week would do more good than harm in their own back yard.

well if you look at the big picture there is around 2000-5000 grow houses in this city according to the police. So if they are all dumping say 10 gallons of water/fert into the sewer every week thats 20,000-50,000 gallons of fert per week thats alot no matter how you look at it
Where do you dump your used nutes?
that's if all of them are goin hydro and all of them are dumping full res's I have got my res to run in pretty good order so I can let it drain down to 5 gallons before a res change...atleast half are growin in dirt and like I said that's spread out over the city....the vegetation in the areas around your house should have no problem soaking up the nutes...if you are that concerned however you could easily just let the used nute water sit for a while till the strength is appropriate for house plants like zandor said and just spread em around there...water being dumped down drains goes through treatment plants where they extract chemicals that are much worse for the environment than plant food trust me...aka bleach and various other chemicals that people use to clean tubs/toilets...
I still think the best thing is just giving house plants or yard the left over
PS the soil in the ground acts like a filter so if you dump a potent nute solution in the dirt in your backyard most of it would be filtered out after just a few feet of travel through the soil leaving a high concentration of nutes in the location you poured it...I have a hard time believing res changes are the cause of the increased algea I'd lean toward farms for that issue

Well, it looks like there are going to be some very well fertilized plants in my backyard. I was thinking of going back to soil but I am gonna have to get rid of the soil somewhere too. And I dont know if I want to spend my time stirring up a giant kiddie pool filled with bat shit, cows blood, chicken bones so I can grow some organic weed in soil. I have heard that weed grown in organic soil tastes better but I have not been able to tell the difference. Maybe I have not yet developed connasuer taste.

Good idea to stick with water...not only is the cleanup easier but I'm sure it will reward you with more yield once you tweak the system
On the subject of taste I'm sure there is some difference but if you flush properly it's gotta be pretty minimal anyway...flush times differ greatly but I tend to lean toward a week unless the plants are gigantic...
A side note on taste...I've used a magnifying glass to light the mj instead of a butane lighter and the taste is out of this world especially since the last hit will taste almost exactly the same as the first...

I use a pipe pvc and at night I put it on the neighbors fruit trees. At one time I put them on my roses. But had a problem explaining why my roses were so damn big. Its fun to dump them on one of a bunch of plants in a neighbors yard. They go bonkers trying to figure out why only plant grow so large.
Note in Calif. lemons are only the size of grapefruit if you help muther nature.
Note I dump 80-90 gallons every 3 weeks so it a lot of fun. Down the drain is a waste of ferts.
Best was glad's 7 ft tall and 8 in flowers, gerainiums (SP) 4 ft tall, limes the size of large oranges. One thing with muther nature she has nice firm buds with hydro I love nice large firm buds.

Dont do it. I tried rain water once and ended up with an infested garden of bugs. Bad Idea!
Peace
