i woke up, and i am dying
i am dying
why can i not remember this?
i feel like somedays i waste life doing things to perpetuate myself into this system called society
why am i trying?
i'm DYING, why can i not remember this?
but if i left what i know, where would i go? where would home be?
right on the sea, the stars and me
do you think that if you told yourself every morning that you were dying, that you/me wouldn't take life for granted?
-
i woke up, and i am dying
You're dying before you're even born.
Without death, there is no life.
-
i woke up, and i am dying
I think there is a name for that... oh yeah... depression. Nah, it's not really something I dwell on. Enjoy LIFE, don't focus on death. If today, and tomorrow aren't the "best" times of your life, then change, don't dwell on the fact you're just gonna die, that's weak.
-
i woke up, and i am dying
Do the math... we only have somewhere around 20,000 days of precious life...
Why waste one of those days by not being TOTALLY happy...?

i want to change my life, but it's not simple when you have college loans, and 2 more years of college left. i feel like i'm not progressing to where i want to be, and all this time i am spending NOW seem like a distraction to some of my main goals to happiness.
and i'm not dwelling on death. i am using its concept (we are progressively dying) as a realization

I read this post because thats what i felt like when i woke up this morning. Death, I got a stomach virus, and feel like shit.
anyway, I understand what you are saying, but everyday is progress to another, if you decide to take it as such. Otherwise you are just living one of those 20,000 days in idle.
Pay attention and absorb the information in every class. You never know when a silly bit of class with help you in the future. I've been suprised by how much 'useless information' i have used on jobs and in conversation. learn learn learn.
Take every interaction with anyone you meet as serious as you can. This is just like class, except this class will allow you to learn how other people work and think. This class doent give you any credits, but will allow you to navagate in any social enviorment better then ever(work, school, bars, whatever) plus you never know what someone could say to you that can spark a total change in direction for your life.
Remember you have the power to change your life at anysecond. You are who you are because of your enviorment, you are who you are tomorrow because you can decide to be. When you have an idea, lets say working out daily, you can acomplish that idea if you really decide to. Society and culture are both prisions. Although you may be trapped in a rat race, your mind is still free as long as you allow it to be.
blackdog, in what ways do you want to change your life?

The world is absolutely STUFFED with different things to learn and do. We are so lucky these days to have internet access and mountains of information at our fingertips. Use it. There's ALOT more out there than you think.!!

that sucks, i hope you feel better soon. are you cleaning out your system?

yeah, this is exactly how i view it. but what if you had only 14,000 days. Either way, some days i feel that the things i am doing that day in order to secure the future, is not progressing to where i want to be at the end of my life. AND what if it is as soon as 14,000 days

i take this comment, toungue in cheek. i feel the education system deletes alot of knowledge from discussion intentionally. i am forced to memorize and regurgitate cherrypicked history while struggling to finding my own truth about this world through self-education.

blackdog, in what ways do you want to change your life?
1. take a break from college
2. move to another country (south america, maybe europe)
3. work and/or invest money in real estate
4. throughout this time^^ work for social issues in the country i am living in
5. hopefully in 1-3 years i will have saved enough money.. and will be generating income from the real estate to purchase either more land/housing
6. if i cannot purchase more housing, the rent money from the real estate along w/ a part time job and savings will be able to support me while i finish my last 2 years of business school
7. after business school, i want to work for gov't institutions and/or grassroots organizations to achieve social justice in the part of the world i am living in and upon that
basically, i just feel like i need a break from school to learn about myself and the world. but i get loans from the government and if i get outta school for 6 months or more, I have to start paying them, holding back my funds for investing. not to mention the idea of me taking a break from college would be very unpleasing to my parents and my mom, who helps me w/ some of my school bills would not help me out if i did this.... i have things to look forward to with the road i'm headed but i don't know if this is the best decision for how i could be spending my DAYs
-
i woke up, and i am dying
well... i think is a common mistake to think as some poeple said "you have some 20000 days"... who knows? Death is stalking everybody. Graveyards have not only old people, you know. Every one of us can drop dead any moment. I have nothing to ensure me i will ever finish to write this post. Any thing we do can be our last act on this earth. Remember it, and act accordingly.
When youre in a bad day, think "this day may be my last one. would i like to waste it feeling bad?" or, in the words of Don Juan:
"Death is the only wise adviser that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you're about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you're wrong. That nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, 'I haven't touched you yet'." (Journey to Ixtlan, by Carlos Castaneda)

I have to agree that slogging through day to day crap can be pretty harsh sometimes.
-
i woke up, and i am dying
I see my friend, well you can start on all of that soon enough, you know, it's hard to get a job in any other country without a degree anyway, so why don't you spend more time learning about where you want to go, maybe learn that language, and culture, read up on business (land ownership) ideas and continue your path of self education.
Remember i said culture and society are both prisions from which you can not escape. You have to play the rules until you can break a little more free, but until then, use the education are getting to further your own cause.
And i agree, a lot of classes are nothing but fluff, but a lot of life is fluff too, don't let it get you too far down though, or you risk becoming another gear in the machine that you find unrest in. Smile and observe.

Cancer knocked that into me big time, its sad though that it takes something that big for some people to realize how important life is
-
i woke up, and i am dying
I live my life to be as fun as can be... If i'm not having fun, i'm not living, so i do sumthing else.. that easy
-
i woke up, and i am dying
I've already envisioned my death, being annihilated by a great white shark, in a dream once, I just dunno when its gonna happen....
That's an interesting thought though, I'm really baked right now, so I'll probably end up thinking about it until I fall asleep...

well, for anyone who replied, thank you... all advice was thought about thoroughly

i am determined not to become a gear in the machine!
that's a rad metaphor, skrap :rasta:
i definitely am aware of the "fluff" in life, and moved away society's norms
i feel materialism and expectations is what leads to everyone's sorrows
and steer far from both. i hate money, but work and collect it because as you said, you have to play by the rules
to be honest,
i wouldn't be worried, but i feel the machine is advancing way too fast,
and will be farther along than i would like it to be when i leave it.
-
i woke up, and i am dying
Agreed about being a gear in the machine. Schools are made to turn you into employees, not so you can learn. Also I don't dwell on death much. When I die, I die. I don't care when it happens, or how. Could happen now, could never happen. It's just better not to think too much about it. It's like thinking about an unanswerable question, it will drive you to insanity...

Wow, words make it hard to convey the right statements that would be appropriate, but i would just like to say im admirable of your strength.
that is a big situation to integrate into. i wonder, having thoughts about death already if it would make it easier if i heard the news that it happened to me.

Well you cant let it get you down. You cant bitch ya know. It could always be alot worse. Besides it made me the person I am today I suppose.

yeah, you're a smart girl.
so many people complain and caress the tiniest things, and it's so easy to take that road when you're dealt a bad hand in life. i guess, like you were saying, it takes something big to realize these things :/
