Don't let yourself smoke till you are done with your homework, then reward yourself with a victory smoke.
It feels great.

Drink a monster, they help me focus. I don't have much else to do anyways, so I spend a few hours everyday doing homework, even though I barely get any done while doing it. Just try to stay focused and it's really damn easy.

My B, I didn't realize you didn't have any bud.
Try going into another room with no distractions. Maybe go to the kitchen to work on it, instead of in your room on the computer (assuming thats where you are).

I use adderal or similar for big projects or papers.

How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
Yea, I had a crapload to do today so I took a ritalin, kicked my motivation way up and I pumped out everything i needed very quick. Helps to think up ideas too. I know not everyone can get them but, if you can, I suggest getting your hands on some and using them.

How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
Weird, cause all the people here smoke when they have something to do. But yeah, when I was in school, I'd take a gravity bong hit and then hit up the Faulkner (then I kind of realized that a major in literature is sort of useless, but whatever. I love Faulkner).
I suggest taking a cold shower, some coffee or other caffeinated drink, and, if you have some, adderall. Sort of to wake you up.

haha oh wow, can i relate. As we speak, I am sitting here with 710 words written for the 2000 word paper I had due on Friday. I wish I could tell you how to motivate yourself, but I don't think there is a real answer. Motivation comes from within, you need to convince yourself to do it. I also agree it's not the weed, I was super motivated last year but not this year...
and whatever anyone says, don't turn to drugs to motivate yourself.

That's good advice right there. Limit your distractions. If you're in front of the computer you will be temped to go somewhere like here.
For papers, it's hard when you don't know where to start. But try outlining, or coming up with a thesis and topic sentences for the paragraphs. If you can't do that, the best thing you can do is to just write. And if you can't type it up in the kitchen or wherever because there's no computer there, then just write it out on paper.
Just start writing something and work from there. You now have your first rough draft. Just revise it until you feel it's good. It's just getting something down that is the trick.
You say it's a history paper? If it's a research type one, then that's easy. All you have to do is research. Find the general summary of who/whatever, note the part(s) that make that who/whatever relevant or important. Then you can focus on those parts specifically and beef up your paper.
But really, being motivated is a mindset. If you never do your work and procrastinate a lot, then you're in an unmotivated mindset and it becomes a habit. Just try and change it. It might not be a complete 180 at the snap of a finger, but give it some time and you'll see a change. Once you get in that motivated mindset, it will become habit to get your work done.
Being organized is a huge part of that. Why would you want to go refer to your notes or anything if they're out of order, unlabeled, in a bunch of different places, and x amount are missing? You won't, and it won't be much of a help for you to even take notes if that's how it is.
So instead, take good notes. Find a format you like for labeling, and follow it for all your classes. The class and the date at least should be at the top. Try and label in the margins different chapters/sections those current notes are referring to. Space out your notes; it's easier to read, understand, and much easier to try and find something. Underline or highlight key terms or topics or definitions, or whatever based on the type of classes you're taking. Try writing in pencil (mechanicals work great) so you can erase things. It will keep your notes neat and clear.
Have a binder that you can put notes in. Put tests/quizzes/homework/schedules/syllabuses (sp?) in there too. Give each of those they're own section. It's organized and easy to reference. Trust me this will help a lot. If you ever miss a class, get notes from someone. Even if you can't understand it, it's good to have something for that day that you can reference from somewhere else (like the book). Also at the end of the day, or at least end of the week, organize everything. Put it in its proper place, you may need a 3 hole puncher.
Enough of notes. Try getting a calender and/or a dry erase board. Put down when you have tests, quizzes, homework, papers, labs, anything due. It will be a good reminder and it is very useful because you can map your time nicely. You can see when things are coming up and how much time you can spend for each. If see you have a paper and 2 back to back tests, it is easy to spot it in advance and figure when you should spend time for each, how much, and when.
Write your grades on the wall. You get an A or a B put it up on the wall. You can see results on the wall it will help you keep your motivation. If it was a really hard test or something and you got a C put that up. It may not seem like a great grade, but it was tough, you worked hard on it, in that case, a C is a fucking good grade. Let it show.
Have your work area free from as many distractions as possible. Have it clean, spacious, and well lit. Have tools you will need nearby: paper, ruler, pens, pencils, erasers, highlighters, markers, etc.
When you come home, just try to do your homework right away. If it's heavier work, do a decent or better chunk of it. Plan out when you will work on it. If you work for a long time, take a break. Get some exercise, relax, get some fresh air, get some water whatever you need. If you get something assigned in advance, try and take a stab at it early, work on it a little at a time and regularly. Some people like to just do it all at once, but in any case, DON'T wait till the last minute to do it. For anything else, DON'T wait till the last minute to do it. That is the unmotivated habit, keep from doing those to stay motivated.
There's more I'm sure, but that's a lot to take it. So I hope it helps. It's all a mindset and it's all about habits. Try and and eventually you'll see results. And you might never be perfect about being motivated, but that's ok, it's still better to be motivated most of the time.
In anycase, good luck I hope this helps you.

How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
i didnt read any advice anyone else posted. instead ill just post my own personal whatever haha.
dude, im a biology major and i love doing homework high. when im high, i get into reading, and when majoring in something so intricate as biology, there is A LOT to read. I concentrate more high. i almost feel like i think about things more in depth when high.
i cant listen to music when im doing homework because i love music and i get into it too much, its too distracting, so cut music out of the equation. no tv, no internet, no phone..too many distractions.
the best advice is to focus your mindset on the task at hand, and only that. its simple.
i dunno, maybe its stupid repeated jargon, but thats how i feel when im trying to get an 18 page paper done. i get high and i focus. and i cut the rest of the world off for about 4 hours. no biggie to me.

its credible but only to a very short extent.
its open source and editable by almost anyone.
i could go there and put in an article and make up something no one has heard of. then someone could take that as fact and go use it on their homework, become a doctor, and try something that is totally bogus..hypothetically if they even got that far.

Exactly.
Most teachers will not accept it. As far as I have found out.

Wikipedia helped me get an A on my essay assesing Utilitarianism. I didn't copy it though, I assure you.

thats something thats pretty easy to define and research though. its like, it would be hard to fool someone and define ice cream as pizza. you cant define it as anything else otherwise its too easily shot down...if that makes sense.
but some things you look into on that site, youll get complete falsifications.
-
How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
Lol, i'm sure it made sense to you, not me. Anyway, i think it's a good source for philosophy, so i'll continue to use it =]
In my opinion it's pretty much good for finding out anything.
-
How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
what i mean is that if someone tried to take utilitarianism and define it as something it was not, it would be impossible to because there is an easily distinguished definition for it. you cant say that an apple is an orange, because we all know that that isnt true. but you can say that an apple is the same color as an orange, and that is simply pure falsification and not true, but if youre colorblind how do you know?
i dunno i know someone gets what im tryin to say.
-
How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
Yes, so what you're saying is wikipedia gives a clear definition of things so people can't simply make them up? It's an externat referance of truth?
But i think you're saying there's things on there that are false, I haven't really seen that so i can't comment.

ive seen accounts of bands breaking up and people dying on there that were total rumors. they even put little disclaimers up that say "this topic can be debated" because its not even been proven yet.
this is due to the fact that people are inputting bogus info on there regularily. i think they used the terminology "internet vandalism"
-
How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
That may be so but isn't the false easily distinguishable from the true?

if you look into it more and you dont believe everything you read on the internet, it could be distinguishable. im not saying how easy it would be though. but it shouldnt be too tough.

teachers say that because they hear anyone can edit it. that is true but not completely. keep in mind they didnt have the interent when doing papers. that isnt a big factor but it kind of explains why they think it is automatically all trash when if you sit down and look at it just about all the research on relevant topics checks out and is reviewed on a more than daily basis.
on historical and scientific facts it is pretty accurate but not in depth. i use it but i dont cite it. anyone can edit it but they have a very big staff of people who constantly comb through the edits particularly on the scholarly topics, ie if it is your hometown page or your favorite pronstars page they might miss something but if it is somerthing for a paper use it but they never have nearly enough specific info but it is a good starting point, plus you can look at the sources they cite which normally have more detailed info. but never put it as a source unless you want to lose points

The way I see it, if you're in college and you don't really want to do the homework, then I'm pretty sure your not too interested in the field you have chosen. :) I know, you get days where you get tired and stressed out, but if you have chosen something you want to do for many years, then you should have that motivation to start life in that field of work. That's how I see it anyways.
I know when I go back to school, I'll be itching to learn something new that I'll be happy with, and can make good money from. If you're struggling day in, and day out with homework, then you should consider choosing something that really interests you.
If this is high school we're talking, then quit being so lazy and do the work. In HS, you have a mom and dad, that pays for everything, while they work all day. I was taught that you either work, or you go to school. If you're too lazy for school now, then just quit, and apply at your local mall food court cleaning tables and cleaning up after people.

if youre copying stuff, thats about as far as youll get anyways, unless youre lucky.
seriously just think for yourself and get the work done. it aint hard and learning is fun.
i remember in high school i hated it but now i look back and i remember actually trying hard because i wanted to figure stuff out.
now im a third year bio major and i wouldnt change a thing.

How do you keep motivated and finish homework?
Anti-procrastination tips.
1. No internet.
2. No music with lyrics... just instrumentals or something ambient that you can't sing along to.
3. No TV or movies.
4. Make a plan of attack - an outline.
5. Set a goal. Work for 15 minutes, then 5 minute break, or longer if you can, maybe 45 minutes working with a 15 minute break.
6. Run around the block, then sit down. It will get your energy up.
7. If you need to eat or drink, STOP WORKING, eat and drink efficiently, then go back to your work. If you try to do two things at once, one of them will suffer (most likely the paper).
8. Talk it out... talk to yourself, or get a parent/friend/etc to just let you talk to them about it, get your thoughts organized.
9. Make one day a week "anti-procrastination" day. My day is Wednesday. Other days I can procrastinate but on Wednesday I am NOT allowed.
10. Have some kind of treat for yourself that you only get when you are working on something dreadful. For me, it was physics reports, and I got to drink Malibu'n'Coke. I wouldn't allow myself any other time, so then I started to look forward to physics reports just for the fact that I got to have my Malibu'n'Coke.
