New idea for moderation.

How about instead of a moderator system which has numorous flaws including the fact the the moderator can be motivated by personal opinion or prejudice we enact a program similar to the ones i see all over the other message posting sites.

LET THE USERS DECIDE.

Its kinda like the reputation system on if a post has several (say more than 5) negative marks on it by other members then it will be hidden or deleted or brought to the attention of moderators who's job will be to take posts that have been voted on and if enough negative votes are recorded they will remove it or move it.

Say someone makes a post that isn't supposed to be in this particular forum, they could give it a negative mark and leave a comment so the mod knows where to move it instead of delete it or whatever.

That way everyone can have a say on what we want or dont want in our forum without being afraid of crossing a mod on a personal opinion. Which has happened to just about all of us at one point or another. That way we don't have fiasco's like with LIP which im sure is well known.

This seems to the fairest option to choose and im sure the existing reputation system could be altered to do this exact thing.

Please don't take this as an insult P4B, but what exactly do y'all look for when approving new members? I thought the reason new memberships had to be approved was because someone had to review the IP adress and stuff to make sure it wasn't a banned user. Granted, I'm pretty ignorant on this subject, but it just seems like there are a lot of people with multible accounts, or simply banned members finding their way back here.

Or do y'all just give some people a second chance with a new name?

I don't know, it just seems kind of pointless that members have to be reviewed before they are allowed to sign in.

I'd like to see a section with stories about bannings, and such - not a "discussion" as much as a history and chronicle of various insanity on this board. It might be amusing - especially the events surrounding certain people that are permanently not permitted to post, or those who left in anger.

We do check over the IP's but there are times when a user goes to a friends house........some other terminal. I saw this from a different site, this dude used his buddies computor....a good member in fact, but because of the matching I.P. he managed to get the good dude booted out of here also.

The attitude always eventually shines through it seems. There are some that sneak back in and stay low and mellow....that's all cool, glad to see them back in that fashion. BUT then there are the others...

As for users denied.......how many banned members are pissed off and want to return in here flaming is the best question. Goes from week to week.....

As for myself, WHENEVER a member gets into a situation I look at the IP's just to see if there is any relationship to a past member........hell, I even gave this one a chance to mellow down but instead he posted this garbage in feedback. LOL.......is there a full moon?

Sounds like a very tedious job. :( Another forum I was a part of made you indentify the location you are logging in from. I'm not sure what the purpose behind that was... but it would log your IP adress for that visit along with your description of it.

ie.
work, school, home, friends house, etc. I'm not sure how it helped anything, but you may see something in that. I'm not sure. It was kind of annoying having to type the location in everytime I logged in though.

Just for the record; banning is the last thing that we enjoy doing in here. EVERY member adds a bit of personality in one way or another to the forums, it just seems that some have the Dr. Jeckle/ Mr. Hyde shit going on.

Not only that but there are times that you can see that it's going to create b.s. e-mails, flack on the forum, etc.....quite the headache to say the least. BUT, if we elected to walk away from these situations would we really be doing what we're suppose to be?

I had an idea last night but was scared to post a thread. I'll put in here and hope it goes unnoticed. It is simple really. Can't the mods set up a swear filter so that certain four letters words that seem to be causing offence come up as "****"? It would certainly help, but it is impossible to censor every possible method of bypassing it.

With the security issues on this site, there needs to be a stop gap, somewhere. In this case...It is having to be reviewed/approved.

If knowledge of user w/ multiple accounts comes to administrations attention, then We act on it. No one should have more than 1 user name.

However; Some IP's have more than one person using computer, in the case of 2 friends that hang out.

another ex. is: a user registers many times with different emails, so if he banned, he can open "other profile" and post. this is illegal, and if this came to admin's attention. It would be dealt with.
