the beatles.
the beatles
lmao... wth?
nirvana
beatles
nirvana
beatles
Grateful Dead
all of todays teeny bopper bands like fall out boy. acdc too
Definitely TOOL.
stupid MCR and FOB
pink floyd
I'd have to say beatles
The Rolling Stones.
I cannot figure out why they have been around so long, they fuckin suck.
yeah, I agree AC/DC deserves to be on the list along with the Grateful Dead, too.
imho no way are the beatles or pink floyd over rated, not today atleast. No one hypes them up like they used to, and there music is really good. So they both had a reason to be rated very highly, u cant over rate great bands like them, they both have changed the music industry.
Now a band like nirvana u could say is over rated but they too changed music.
When you think about over rated bands dont be ignorant becuase you dont like them or arent into there style, look at what thay have changed, there followingm and what they did for music.
A band like blink 182 is over rated, dumbass retards mmaking shitty music, but made mad money, while minipulating people into the "pop" scene. Not that its a bad scene but there are shitty bands out there that get way to much attention becuase they potray themselves to a certain group of people, look deeper then how you dislike there music and look at what there actually doing or did for the music community.
I'll agree with Jack, any band that puts choreography before actual talent. Pretty much any pop band out there today. You might not like AC/DC or the Beatles but at least they played there own instruments.
Jack,
Pink Floyd is soo overrated, there music isnt even "trippy" nor is it the best "chill out" music imo. If you think pink floyd is a good definition of psychedelic rock, you would be sadly mistaken if you listened to some real phych rock or post-rock. Sorry but idk where your from, the "hippys" at my school hype up floyd like crazy so i dont really know where you live that people overlook them. I wish i lived there. (im not tryin to start a thread war so dont take it like that)
99% of the bands that have produced music from the year 2000 and up.
Dude, your like 16. You don't even know what floyd did for music as a whole. You cant overrate a band that is a legend. It'd be like saying the Doors are overrated or something.Quote:

As for truly overrated bands, yeah, I have to put Nirvana on the list... if it weren't for all the attention they got after Kurt Cobain's death, they would have been absolutely ECLIPSED by the talents of Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, who were FAR more worthy contemporaries.
Oh... and for solo artists... Geez, come ON, ELVIS FREAKIN' PRESLEY...
Nirvana and Tool are the most overrated, IMO
when i think overrated, i think of how many people act like they're gods, AND their own personification of themselves...
kurt didn't even want to be famous, he just played cuz he liked the music... all the fans are what made them popular... (and yes i realize he coulda turned the fame down, but who's gonna do that, in reality? that's like throwing away a winning lottery ticket)
i realize it's your opinions, and i don't try to argue with that (but you try to argue mine? lol....) but i don't see how you can say nirvana is overrated and not the beatles...
there are those who treat kurt and nirvana like they're god (not me btw) but there's far less of those fanatic fans than the beatles worshipers, and btw, it's just as easy for me ot say the beatles music sucks as it is for you to say it's great music...
however i have just thought of anohter, i think we all may be able to agree on...
MY NAME IS KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK.....
Uhhh Tool?Quote:

Nirvana, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. The Beatles were alright, but get far too much credit for being innovative, the most important part of the Beatles music was Phil Spector's wall of sound. With Nirvana, they're always getting credit for Kurt Cobain being a brilliant song writer...but why is that? His songs are rarely anything more than random firings of generic lyrics that anyone would be able to relate to. There are no stories, morals, or visuals to be found. The Rolling Stones, well they're just shit. They might have made a catchy song here and there, but anyone can make a catchy song. They've rode the coat tails of their own fame, and all it took in their day to get some press was being British and playing American music.
actually, you're wrong there.... as one example, polly... the songw as inspired and written for a particular event...Quote:

The music is so mundane and boring, i dont know how anyone would consider it trippy, let alone "good". They may have started a revouloution, but the music sucks.
If you think Pink Floyd isnt overrated you have to be totally ignorant when it comes to music. Most people that enjoy pink floyd & take my words for blasphamy probably dont know the first thing about rock music in general. (by this i mean you only know classic rock) Grow out of shell and get off the classic rock bandwagon. They might have been good at the time, but now there washed up.
Theres a ton of genres & subgenres in rock music. People like you make me sick when you confide yourself to one single genre and imediatley dismiss anything that wasnt written in the 70's or played with a bitchin guitar solo.
I could rattle off bands that would make any floyd fans drop a steamer in their pants, however not everyone should know about these bands, especially if you dont have a deep, passionate love for music as a whole.
But what the hell, why dont i spark up a bowl and go listen to Darkside of the Moon. Again. like omFG Da BellLZzz In Tyme R BuGgInnnNN...
pink floyds as mundane as the day is long
you know... o.0 even tho you think i'm a fuckin mongrel (lol) i agree with you on this... i wouldn't call them the most overated, but they are definately overrated... i like 2 songs by them (and believe me i've heard plenty) and that's it.... welcome to the machine and another brick in the wall (i believe it's part 2 i like)Quote:

The Beatles for sure.
As for today, Coldplay or U2 would be my choices. They are both very, very boring music where the lyrics seem to have no meaning.
both those suck imo... i didn't even know they hard a large fan base?

its true that a bag of shit weighs more than my (anyones) opinion, that dont make it any less fun to bash pink floyd though.
lol you taught me a new saying... like
"hope in one hand, shit in the other see which one fills up faster" lol...
now i can say somethin like "it's true my opinion weighs less then a bag of shit, but that don't make it any less grounded or important (or fun)" lol.. btw o.0 i think you misunderstood what i was saying in that thread.... i have no hard feelings or anything just to let you know..
Wolf Mother.
They got a grammy for that 'Woman' song, for best rock performance. (Which, IMO, is the worst fucking song in the history of rock.) Seriously, that's just wrong. Especially considering that Vicarious was nominated in that category. Tool > Wolf Mother x1000.
I know that. That doesn't mean the song is a story. The lyrics are just vague references, and allow the listener to attach whatever meaning to them they wish. Half the lyrics are completely irrelevant to the song anyway, just thrown in because Kurt Cobain was an idiot and couldn't come up with anything better.Quote:

most overrated band TODAY: Fergie. I know she's not a band but she still sucks bad. And I think she was even nominated for a Grammy.
I also don't think The Tragically Hip is as good as most people think they are...
I love coldplay though, someone mentioned them as being overrated. I would have to agree with the U2 comment tho- I just don't understand their appeal.
I know exactly what I'm talking about. I was an avid Nirvana fan, I've heard every song...when I was 13 that was deep to me. I'm sure you find deep meaning in those lyrics, you seem stupid enough, so enjoy it. I honestly don't care if crap your pants.Quote:

if you knew what you were talking about you wouldn't have said all the story related shit... it was about a specific event, it was made just for that specific event.. it wasn't just some coincedence... so no, you don't know what you're talking about...
and i've decided to not start in with insults (i realized about a week ago i went back to insulting people for no real reason) and i'd appreciate if you didn't either... this is all opinion... why can't some of you seem to realize about that? there is no fact of the most overrated band... there is no way it can be fact, so there's no reason arguing over it... the band you think is overrated, will be thousands of other people's favorite band...
it's not something that can be debated it's opinion... maybe i angered you with the beatles statement, maybe you just have a stick up your ass, i don't know and i don't care to know... but next time you feel the need to result to personal insults, just keep it to yourself... please. thank you.
oh yeah, more on the story part.... there's like hardly any bands that write their lyrics based on a story or event, and even less songs by the bands that deal with this.... so that's a completely irrelevant argument... real lyrics are wrote about feeling, not experience... they may sometimes refrence events, but far more often then not, it's about the feelings at the time....
so, please, just grow up and move on... i have no desire to sit here and argue about something like this with a 14 year old.. and if you're not 14, you still hold the mentality of one.... insults as responses to arguments go out at about that time... 15 year olds are usually learning to how to debate without resorting to personal insults...
Sonic
your basicly saying that in order for music to be good it has to have deep meaningful lyrics??
Or better yet if they dont have meaningful lyrics there overrated. well. i seem to recall you arguing for mozart or bach w/e and as far as i know they contain no lyrics whatsoever, anyway.
You say, "The lyrics are just vague references, and allow the listener to attach whatever meaning to them they wish. Half the lyrics are completely irrelevant to the song anyway"
Idk how you interpert that but i think you just majorly contradicted yourself. If the lyrics are vauge and anyone can attach whatever meaning they want wouldnt that mean that more people can accualy relate to the music?
polly was a bad example also, why dont you re-listen to Sappy (verse chorus verse, w/e they call it now)
I dont consider every band with "vauge lyrics" a great band because most people can relate. I love all types of music, with lyrics and without, i feel that dismissing a band based souly on their lyrics is a tad narrow minded. Lyrics are the most meaningless part of a song. unless your into some mainstream, but i wont even go there
and btw, you dont need to argue with personal attacks.
slip: idk what you were talkin about before but i wasnt tryin to portray any bad feelings either.
http://boards.cannabis.com/music-roo...oose-hope.html
^^^ that whole thread lol... and i didn't say you were trying ot portray bad feelings, i was just saying, i think there was a misunderstanding and i had none...
lol i didnt forget about that, no doubt tho, i dont got enough time to hold grudges.
uhh was that an oxy moron???
kind of? lol..
Any band that got more famous after the band broke up or a member died is obviously overrated. . .
