Important Question about resin and rubbing alchahol

Hey, on friday me and my friends cleaned my friends pipe in a mixture of rubbing alchahol and water. We left the dirty water/alch under my bed and I totally forgot about it, when i found it everything had evaporated except for this piece of resin (which was solid, but squishy and looked kinda moist/wet, I can post a pic if needed. The thing is, is there any way for me to safely smoke this or is it just garbage because of the rubbing alchahol. Do you think i could boil the alch off and get any resin out of this? I'm not desperate for weed so if theres any risk im just going to trash it :thumbsup:

I don't know if theres any danger, but I wouldn't smoke it.

before i knew about butane extracting i would soak my stems in rubbing alcohol and then let the rubbing alcohol sit out untill it was all evaporated and had myself hash oil

I wouldn't, but that all depends on what kind of rubbing alcohol it is, There is a kind thats safe to drink after evaporation, I think it's ethanol or something like that and I think Ispropyl is really dangerous even after its evaporated

i would think it should be fine......thats just like making iso hash....except your using resin. It will taste pretty bad but you might get a little high. :twocents:

i think what he mean is it isnt 100% pure so whatever stuff that was in there beside alchhal isn evaprated

if it only gets me a little high that would suck, normal resin i scrape gets me fucked up

ok heres what you have to do. take some of the rubbing alcohol that you used, put it in a dish and let it sit in the sun till all the liquid has evaporated. if there is any kind of residue left in the dish DONT smoke the resin. if its all clear, then youre good to go :thumbsup:

how long do you have to leave it in there? mines been in 2 hours but still has resin? (havnt cleaned in while)

I put it in there then used paper towels, q-tips, and the sink power to clean the resin out.

the percentage of alcohol is the time in order for it all to evaporate.......so 97% will evaporate faster than 90%

Actually, Isopropyl isn't very deadly (BUT STILL IS DEADLY). That being said, even small amounts will cause you an extreme amount of stomach discomfort (i.e. horrible projetile vomiting, diearreah [spelling], etc.), you will feel extremely disoriented (think being drunk in a bad way), and it will be converted to acetone by your liver, giving you extremely fruity smelling breath.

Ethanol is normal drinking alcohol, it's safe to consume if you don't over do it.

Methanol is a terrible thing to drink or inhale. Methanol (found rarely in some rubbing alcohols and more often in denatured alcohol) will be converted to formaldahyde by your liver, which in turn will bind to your optic nerves causing blindess. Under no circumstance should you consume methanol, ever.

All (pure) alcohols evaporate fairly readily in the air. Chances are there isn't any isopropyl alcohol left, or if there is it is in small quantities. If there was any isoproply alcohol left, you'd know right away because it would immediately combust into a high temperature flame which would cause severe burns, if you were inhaling that it'd really suck. The best solution if you are really worried, would be to rinse your peice with water. The alcohol molecules are extremely attracted to H2O so it will carry any remaining alcohol out with it.

put it over a flame very briefly if it does not burst into flames you know that the alcohol has evaporated, if all you have is a watery ball of resin put it into a toaster-oven/oven at approx 200 degrees taking a break every few minutes to drain water by squeezing, when ball is dried to desired consistency, smoke.

I clean out my piece with rubbing alcohol all the time - there's no danger in it, because alcohol's low vapor pressure means that it evaporates pretty quickly, but then again, I don't think that's what he's asking. :)

As far as smoking resin extracted via alcohol, I couldn't imagine it being too much more harmful than smoking bud neat; I've heard of butane extraction for hash oil, and this doesn't sound too different except that it's more conventional and simple. All that bottle of rubbing alcohol in your bathroom is, is a roughly 70% dilution of unpalatable (and poisonous) alcohol in water. Unless I'm much mistaken, if you just leave a small amount in a clean shotglass or something else clear and let it sit for long enough, it will evaporate and leave no residue. If this is the case, then I'd say there's nothing to worry about in smoking this resin.

The closest thing to a case-in-point I can come up with is that as scrupulous as I am with my piece, I imagine that ever since the inaugural smoke, I've been smoking some sort of residue in it that was once dissolved in alcohol (one reason why I don't prance around in front of DEA headquarters holding it aloft and singing loudly), and I've never suffered any ill effects. Except for that malformed head that grew out of my lumbar spine. :D

personally i hate the taste of it... (maybe it's in my head) besides it takes to long... i posted a guide, to get the most resin outa pipes possible and still be able to smoke it, and not have to sit around forever while the alcohol evaporates...

best thing is, you don't add in anymore chemicals, all it involves is really hot water, your peices, and a coffee filter... (tho i did add a copule of things to make it easier, but that would have absolutely nothing to do with the composition of it all)
