Random Student Drug Tests: I'll homeschool if I have to

No way will I let a school randomly drug test my kids. If my kids are doing anything, I will be the one to handle it, not some nubby fucknut with power issues. I also don't let them fingerprint my kids. About twice a year, they send these little Ident A Kits home, for us to give them permission to fingerprint the kids, supposedly for their own safety. BULLSHIT. It's just a way of tagging your kids and getting them in the system, so when they get popped for smoking a little bud later in life, they've already got their prints on file. Enough of that rant. Read this.

Just to toss this out there- I am 23 now and I remember when I signed up in kindergarted (honestly, I remember it like it was yesterday), they took our prints. That was around 18 years ago I believe. Of course I didn't think much of it then and still didn't until a few months ago.

And I didn't know that when students or kids had to test, they were visually supervised.

well I am a sophomore in high school and i clearly remember identa kid, jsut to identify the kid or some shit. anyway onto what i was really going to comment on was the drug testing because i go to a private high school and we get random hair drug tests and it really fucking sucks because you can get tested as many times as your name gets picked. now mind you i got tested on january 18th so i've been smoking since. if i got tested again it would really fuck my shit up, but i agree with you on the fact that the school shouldn't be nosying around in other peoples shit even when its weed or drug related because its not between the kid and the school its a personal issue. why they do it i have no idea i guess just as an added bonus to appease parents i suppose, bullshit either way you look at it. a definate pain in the ass having to abstain from smoking for fucking half the year until you get tested, and even then its still a crapshoot because you could get tested again at any time.
p.s. it seems to me that homeschooled kids are kinda weird in a way since my stepdad told me about this boy who was homeschooled all his life and then went to my school(all boys christian school) and got fucked with really badly. it seems like if they just dont have interactions with kids a majority of their school career that jumping straight into a high school atmosphere is like a kick in the nuts, especially one like mine because at my school everyone fucks with eachother. Its just a school full of assholes.anyhow thats just my two cents from a teenager's perspective

I went to homeschool because I was sick and tired of school adminstators taking control of my life.

I seriously got my phone taken away and a Saturday school(where you have to go to schol on staurday 8:00-12:00) for being on my pohne in the quad 10 seconds before the bell rang.

saturday schools are actually fun at my school during football games because all you do is clean up and when you're done you can leave. oh and the dean hands out free donuts at the beginning and soft drinks at the end. and if we get our cell phones taken up its a 10 dollar fine to get it back

Thanks for your perspective d00d. I haven't been a teenager for many years now, so I like to get the opinion of those who are.
My girls are 8 and 5, my sons are 11 and 9. We already busted my oldest boy smoking cigs. We didn't say much about it. Basically, I told him the health issues (His father and I both smoke cigs), and told him not to steal out of my pack, just to ask. He's too embarrassed to ask so far. :)

As for the social aspects of homeschooling, my kids are in public school, and are very well adjusted socially. They're all popular and get good grades. So even if I had to homeschool, I think they would do fine if later they went back to public school. I know what you're getting at though. Some homeschooled kids are just weird, and it's their parent's fault.

I think the schools need to leave parenting to parents, and stick to what my tax dollars pay for.

They send home school work that they want the parents to participate in, and then they want to turn around and do the parent's job of moral training. I wish they'd just teach my kid math, and let me worry about a little bud.

Yes, I agree. Drug testing in schools is complete bullshit. They are teachers, not our parents, so they should teach. It seems half the time they're teaching, and the other half they're trying to figure out what they do in their free time.

I am against any drug testing, but I hear most of the testing is done when they want to enter a sports team, which again, is bullshit. If they can play, then they can play. What's in their urine shouldn't matter.

We never had drug testing in my day, then again I started in Holland but then moved to Canada. If anyone in my school told me to piss in a cup, I'd tell them to fuck right off.

They are teachers, so they should teach and teach only. Leave the parenting to the parents.

Sounds like the other kids were the misadjusted ones... my lil bro dod homeschool for a while and was still elected class president for junior and senior years.

Anyway back to the topic, it's fucked; teachers should be TEACHING, educating, nurturing young minds, not being put in the role of police/disciplinarians... sad that schools feel the need to do these things because some parents fail to supervise their childrens' lives out of school... and everyone else has to suffer for it.

BTW don't you and Papi have a few kids between you? And the school systems get state funding on a per-head basis... your household probably has about $20,000 a year in 'pull' of what the school would lose if you yanked all your rugrats to homeschool or private school. Hint hint... you go in there and show them waht's what.

I know from experience that public school is just one big fuckin daycare. In the time I was there, we went from having no drug tests at all, to being drug tested for any extraciriccular activites we wanted to participate in.

Greenjeans, Im happy that you seem to know that no matter how much you yell at your kids or tell them not to do something, that theyll do it anyways, I think the way you handled your kid with your cigs was simply ace. If I ever decide to have kids, I hope that I dont treat them the way my dad was to me, or worse.

Also, homeschooled kids are wierd as hell.. Theres a kid that lives 3 houses up from me thats homeschooled, and he has been his whole life. Hes atleast 17, and hes WIERRRRD. Seriously, kids that are homeschooled their whole lives are being set up to get scraight FUCKED in the real world.

I don't see how a homeschooled person would be "fucked" or "weird" as compared to someone who goes to public schools. :wtf: I find homeschooled kids not be as judgemental, like judging people and saying they're fucked for the real world. ;) How do you know that? No public school means them not getting picked on (higher self esteem), not being controlled by "teachers" (not as angry or frustrated), they're not put under pressure to study for exams (calm and collected), they won't get urine tested to play sports, need I go on?

Schooling is schooling in my eyes. Parents teaching their own children won't be giving them urine samples when they want to play soccer with some friends, or won't take their cell phone away and go through your private info.

Public school are fucked, and if I can afford to take the time to teach my own kids, I will (when I have kids) but that's hard to do in this day and age.

Tomorrow, I should be getting a call saying I failed a drug test for the second time, happy birthday to me. I'm guessing I'll have to go to drug therapy or some shit. Fuckin' wack. I have decent grades (straight A's and an F in math, but the F will be at least a D soon) and I'm not doin' nothin' to hurt no one. I'm not even in an extra curricular activity really. Its just that my school is a big nazis and put everyones name on a list saying they are in 'skillz usa' so that they can get away with testing us.

I really don't see what gives them the right to drug test students anyway. Like, what the FUCK does that have to do with education? So your going to deny an education to the kids who need it most (since us 'druggies' are dumb right?)

I don't remember getting finger printed as a kid, in school that is, and there is no chance I'd go for that now.

And there is no way they would get my permission to finger print my kids, if/when I have kids :thumbsup:

They wanted my fingerprints in kindergarden for "emergency use only" :rolleyes: My folks ain't stupid, so they said no. :thumbsup:

Okay, well not ALL homeschooled kids are being set up to fail in life, but the kid that lives by me has been coddled by his mommy and daddy his whole life. Hes gonna find out soon that the world is a very harsh and dangerous place.

I dont remember ever being finger printed at school. If something happened to me I'm sure I've left tons of fingerprints all over my home that they can have if needed. As for the drug testing, pure invasion of privacy. Just say no! If I ever felt like my child might be hiding drug use from me I can take care of things on my own. There are some nonacademic things that I do feel like schools should be teaching (even if they arent doing a good job of it at the moment). Sex Edu is the main thing. Parents should still teaching it at home though.

I'm a senior in highschool and at the start of the year there was talk about random drug testing, which really pissed me off...The school I went to didn't have very good teachers..I mean I guess they knew what they were talking about and attempting to teach but they just didn't care if we were really learning..I had a few teachers tell me just to drop out, I'm not gonna finish school, Get a job now..shit like that...which really upset me..I mean I got D's to A's..only failed 3 classes in my life and they were telling me to give up... On a side note what really made me leave the school was my car is lowered some and they decide to put in speed curbs..like they were supposed to be spped bumps..but they were so damn high i couldn't drive over them without scraping my frame across them...I talked to the principal that put them in and told him my situation... He told me I need to raise my car or take the bus to school and that it's not his fault my car is too low..(there is no other way into the parking lot without having to get over the speed curbs o' death) I snapped at that point and told him that if My frame gets damaged at all I'm going to make the school pay for it...they didn't take the speed bumps out after parents and students complained to the point that the school called everyone and set up a answering machine for complaints about them...I switched highschools...

I started kindergarten during the early 1980's and I can recall being fingerprinted at the beginning of term, every single fall, until I reached the sixth grade. I have no idea why my school did that. My parents didn't seem to be bothered by it.

When my younger son had problems in school (he's dysgraphic- like dyslexia in handwriting) and my older son was being made to run laps in spite of a doctor's note (resulting in inflamed knees due to a mild congenital deformation), I pulled my kids out of public schools. I home schooled them for 3 years. The elder decided, rather than go back to 12th grade in public school, to get his GED. He took it "cold", no studying and passed with flying colors. My younger boy, went back into 8th grade where they tested him for academic proficiency. In science, he scored grade 16 (that's 4 year college), math was a bit below average, but the rest were at grade level or better.

We had a blast home schooling! We would pick a subject- earthquakes, Southwestern Native Americans, the planets, etc, and study it for a week. We also watched CNN for an hour and then discussed what we saw. The only reason we stopped is that my younger needed the socialization and the older had hit 12th grade.

My kids are quite different- my oldest is "computer wizard" at a local school. Well liked by everyone and always smiling, my oldest is quite successful. The younger is like his Dad, unemployed and semi-antisocial. (However, he's a first-rate cook and does a gourmet dinner 3 nights a week for his poor old Mom.)

I also work at the school and spend much of my time fixing the teacher's mistakes. About 1/3 of the 5th graders at my school have trouble doing multiplication- which is bad, since they are doing algebra now. Spelling is a disaster for many of them. To put is bluntly, I'm not too happy with the job the local schools are doing. I had to listen to the DARE crap today, which does not put me in a good mood. Even in the second grade, I can spot kids who are thinking "This is BS!" as they listen to the cop. By the time they hit 7th grade, they can hardly keep from laughing at all the BS!

Pull your kids out if you feel you can do a better job than the schools! It isn't that hard! Hit the public library and have fun! -Granny:hippy:

You must remember the year 1988. Ronald regan passed a law. Basically if you deal with the federal government, you will take a drug test.

Your kids fall under that until you start homeschooling. Honestly, I dont wanna pay tax money for some 14 year old kid to go and start taking drugs and drop out before graduating highschool.

The prints are for your kid incase of an abduction. Moron. I tpo vividly remember being printed in kindergarden by the police. I also remember being reprinted everytime I got arrested. Those prints are entered into a criminal data base.

The kindergarden ones are still on file at the ^^^^^ police station. Never touched thankfully, as I was never stolen.
