and i have to say it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. I kept hoping that it would get better but it never did. Now i want to take the dvd and smash it into a million pieces and piss on it. I thought at the most it would be about some guys smoking reefer but it was really a bunch of drugged up fuck heads screwing around.
I would not recommend this movie at all. I can't see why anyone would want to watch this movie. It sucks.

i liked it..i thought johnny depp was hilarious, and his acting was especially superb. The story is very hard to follow, I've heard your supposed to read the book to understand everything clearly..I still have yet to read it.

At first I was confused as hell too, but then I watched it sober and it made more sense.
It gets confusing. First time I didn't remember what they even went to vegas for, because the drugs sidetracked the story so much, but if you pay attention you will know whats going on.
Its gonzo-journalism. Thats how its supposed to be.

The movie was great. But I have done a whole lot of acid in my life.

I'd say fear and loathing makes the most sense to two select groups of people:
People who have read the book. Which is amazing. The movie tries, and comes very close to living up to the book, but falls short, as with any great novel.
and
People who have done large quantities of hallucinogens. Wheeee!
Seriously though, if you've never encountered concepts like "the fear", or self-narration, you won't enjoy the movie as much as people who have. The entire thing is made as a sort of homage to the gonzo spirit, drawing the reader, or in this case the watcher, into the story as well.
It's fucking brilliant man.
And as has already been said, it's got some amazing insights into the death of idealism as the sixties dragged into the seventies. The american dream, etc.
But I'm not going to try to convince you. Just like how I wouldn't go through the trouble to point out that even the fed's anti-drug propaganda doesn't say anything bad about lsd other than it can lead to a bad psychological experience. set and setting. it's all an experience. being scared of experiences is like being scared of life.

Not a lot of people liked this movie. It was a boxoffice flop if I remeber right. :)
It's not for everyone, expecially if you're against any other drugs except cannabis, but it is one of favorite movies ever.
Probably because I used to do the LSD and blow, so I guess I can relate to the experiences they have. If you have never done those things, then you don't really get it, and yes, you find it dumb.
First time I saw it I was eating fungi, so what they were seeing and doing, I could relate making it that much more enjoyable.
You need mushrooms and/ or acid, dmt, dxm, etc. etc. One of my favorite movies books of all time, you just don't understand it, look deeper my son.
