Ok well im tired of people looking down on me cuz i smoke pot. Im also tired of people saying weed is a drug. If you have any good ideas to state in an arguement post them here. that way all of us stoners can defend ourselves when people attack our lifestyles. everyone put in some input. thanks.:rasta:
Weed is a drug. It alters your mind. It may not be harmful, but it is still a drug.
I always point people annoying me "cause I use drugs" on the fact that alcohol is a hard-drug, and therefore, we have a century-old tradition of hard-drug manufacturing...
and btw, it's a plant!

It is a drug, but there are different classes of drugs. :)
Caffiene is a drug, nicotine in tobacco is the drug, THC in the cannabis plant is a drug.
Some drugs are more addictive than others, but I find cannabis to be one of the only substances out there that people can start and stop whenever they please. When people think about it all the time, it's not that their body is going through severe withdrawls, it has just become a habit. It's something they are used to doing everyday, and then they stop, it's a hard habit to get out of.

Heres an arguement...
Recent science has shown to be able to target cannabinoid receptors on prostate cancer cell to induce apoptosis. This is a significant finding considering we have just found a whole new apoptotic pathway. Although the cannabinoid they were using for these experiments was sythetic, i have read a few articles claiming the activity of THC on these receptors. This applies to a few different cancers including, but not limited to, prostate cancers, breast cancer, and brain cancer. I wont get into the science of it cuz that would take hours and most of you probably wouldnt even read it... but if you are interested...

definitely with nochowder on this-"technically" it is a drug, and exactly right that yes ganja is habit forming, but not addictive. I know what you mean though, the connotation that people say "drug" in reference to weed as though it's heroine.
The constant assupmtion that if you show any sign of being "lazy" it's because of the pot, yadda yadda. Truth be told if your lazy your lazy don't blame the ganja. I know many a business owners, etc, people with jobs which do not allow for the weed stereo type.

I wouldn't personally call Marijuana a drug (I don't call it 'pot' ever unless im talking to someone who I don't want to know I smoke, saying pot makes you seem more innocent :thumbsup:). Although it alters your mind and body I feel that you can't simply lump it in as a drug, it's cannabis, it's own catagory. It can be used medicinally to relieve pain, cure glaucoma, quell nausia, increase appitite, and recently some are saying that it can help cure cancer. Then theres it's recreational use. Blah, blah, blah I can go on about that for hours.
Anyway, it's not a drug to me, but by definition, yes it's a drug.
Actually, a few years ago there was a cannabis reported death that occured after somebody was given some of those THC pills as medicine. She probally died from some sort of allergic reaction to the cannabis though because it's been proven that there is no way to die from cannabis unless you smoke about 15 lbs. in 15 miniutes which is physically impossibe and mentally impossible because you would pass the fuck out after your first ounce.Quote:

As you’ve already seen, most of the folks here are intelligent enough to recognize that a psychoactive substance IS a drug whether it's in the form of a plant or a pill or a powder. Sure, cannabis and its chemical components are not pills or pharmaceutical products prescribed by a doctor, at least in most cases. And cannabis is not a narcotic in the way that some of the heavier illicit street drugs (those derived from poppies) or synthetic narcotics/analgesics are. But it's an ingestible substance that causes neurological, psychoactive effects. And by that definition, it is indeed a plant-based drug. A largely harmless, beneficial one, but definitely a drug.
Instead of taking issue with the semantics of the word "drug," you might be wiser to argue the merits of whether or cannabis is harmful or not with those who look down upon you for using it. Just be realistic. There are always going to be uninformed people out there who make a judgment without knowing all the facts. Above all, as NextLine has already urged you, if you believe strongly in cannabis for either medicinal or recreational use, you’ll want to present yourself as a well-informed, intelligent proponent—steering away from anything remotely resembling the brainless stoner-kid stereotype—so you can help advance, rather than hinder, the cannabis cause.
So your grandma wouldn't drink alcohol? That's mind altering. That should be used most as a comparison because it gets you drunk and it's even worse for you. Btw, caffeine is a mind altering substance, we just don't take enough at a time.Quote:

As of yet, scientists claim there is some sort of link between cannabis use and the so-called 'risk' factor of schizophrenia. I have Disorganized Schizophrenia- not the visual hallucinations part, but I somtimes hear noises, like beeps and a cellphone ring. Cannabis hasn't altered or brought my symptoms on- I had them before I began smoking. It doesn't really affect me as much as scientists are pushing. I'm actually more motivated and energized because it helps with my chronic pain and sleep problems- I have a few hits before bed, and I sleep beautifully.
There are so many genetic mutations and forms in humans, that something hereditary is almost BOUND to surface. You can blame it on triggers and substances that may trigger it, but odds are, you're going to have it anyway eventually.
My point? Keep smoking :stoned:
It is a drug, just not a hard drug. But just because it's labeled a drug doesn't make it any worse than any over the counter pain pill :).
