well before I'd try to answer somethin like that I'm curious what volume do you wanna grow? what are your options for cost and do you have space limitations? like a low ceiling or small room? closet? I haven't gotten anything spectacular growing yet but I have a few ideas ;)
well basically its very simple but u need to know what ur doing, ill try and make a pic and upload it.
You could keep the res water at the bottom of the rubbermaid or make a drain in the rootchamber and pipe into a sperate res, and a 350 gph pump works good the pump can make all the diference u need alot of pressure to get the water out of the micro prayers affectivly.
Only thing i found difficult was proping the system up in the top of the rubbermaid, i wound up glueing it in but it didnt work, so i had to make legs on it, so it wouldnt fall over over, im sure there is an easier way to do it, but i had it all together and didnt think about it till i was done. let me know if u have anymore questions, ebay has these things up for like 400 buckks its alitte retarded to pay that much for all plastic materials that cost no more the 50 bucks, the most money is the 20 dollar pump.
i couldnt find them on ebay with good pics ill look around some more. u guys get the basics of the system it looks so easy to build, almost too easy, u would think it would be harder. nope! just make sure u get the best micro sprayers available, some are knock offs that just jet the water, also the pvc piping should be about an inch to 2 inches in diameter becuase the larger the tubing the more pressure u get, and use the i the 1/3 tubing for the pump with inner 1/2 diameter, most of the pieces fit right together with some sealent.
if you have ever seen the aero cloners, its the sam exact thing for a quater of the price, with the general ideas all the same, making your own totes and tubs really cuts out the whole cost problem, u can make anything they sell for a quater of the price if you know the general idea.
alwayssleepdeprived: I'm not looking for volume just to use a different hydro setup, I've only used a drip sytem and after a couple grows I'm ready to see what else is out there. Any ideas would be great, thanks for the reply.
Jack: I understand the basic principle, I need specifics like what size pvc to use , How do the sprayers attach to the pvc and how is the pump connected to the pvc. And also do you use netpots or some sort of collar to hold the plants? I am thinking of using a 25 gallon tote and do 2 plants in it. All my sytems i've ever used are homemade so building it my self is no problem.

try going there and take a look at the sprayers I tried to put a link at the bottom unfortunately they don't describe much about the micron size of the droplet anyway they have a thread on em just get the best one it's cheap you'll need to either cut the thread in to the pvc(I think there is a hand tool that will do it after a specific drill size or drill a hole and glue something that has a ready made thread for the spinner and you can just get a flex hose to push over the supply line and pump depending what size that pvc is get one that fits snug over it
From experience level ph is imperative cause yer plants will drink quick so you should notice negative signs within 6 hours of a change maybe even sooner now that I got the ph stable I dropped the light and I'm planning on adding nute strength to the mix by very small increments...I don't know anything bout this either but I also feel the nute level when there young is important I mean there's probably some link to plant weight vs nute strength...the more individual ingredients you use the better your control who knows some strains might like much higher amounts of N in the ratios cause the extra 02
oh about the pump I have a 250gph magnetic impellar it works well but it's only going up a 1 you are going up 2ft and my piping looked thinner than what you had on the totes so make sure whatever pump you buy is capable of putting out a certain psi at the jets(type of jet specific as well probably) umm I don't know if having way more is fine if so that's probably the way to go within reason and cost...JW might have some better advice on that. I'll try to do a little reading tonight cause a few more things popped in my head like humans can't exercise all at once during the day but if yer playing a game you go in bursts or intervals...I'm starting to think having a constant fog at super low nute with intervals of spray maybe during times of stronger higher lumens...who knows I'll post back with some info
The grow project can get better, produce more almost to no end it's each growers choice :hippy:
I'm trying to make a chamber where all aspects I find important can be monitored/altered to ideal...totally reflective is one cause that costs $...then humidity, nute strength, water, water frequency, ph... I'm sure all strains differ but if you do a little homework while you're growing it'll pay off...I don't claim to know any of these ratios but figure that out yourself cause your the one there watching em grow
I'm curious to know what other people think about there setup and what they'd like to see regulated better...

Well the pvc piping can be any size you want, i would use like 1 inch inner diameter tubing for the pvc u can get an end cap for one side and run like 4 or 5 microsrpayers, there i think 1/4 diameter, so u could get that size drill bit just make holes and screw them in. You make it just one strait set up instead of the cornered one, so its just one tube, one side gets endcap the other gets an adapter to fit the 2/3 tubing, when you go to get the pvc, just bring a small piece of the pump tube your using and find all the pieces u need not sure on the fitting for the pvc to pump line, becuase the 1 inch innerdiameter on the pvc will have i dont know the size outer diameter. Its really something u just fit in the store, homedepot should have everything, i find alot of the smaller stores have the more unfindable parts. it shouldnt be too hard. i mean all u really need is a big tube in the middle with the sprayers and the 2/3 outer diameter tube for the pump and for it to connect, sizes and fittings is what u can find and pretty much what works. u can use all different sizes.

I'm not sure how fast they are supposed to grow at what stages but I believe my seedlings have just made it to the official veg stage...start of the 5th node...I'm at or possibly just over a month from seed but I've had several problems which should have killed em anyway so it's a miracle they're teenagers haha anyway I've noticed over 1inch of growth horizontal and about 1/2inch vertical growth each of the last 3 days

I'd like to get the info into more of a chart form...it would be great if someone set up a page where you type in answers to a bunch of questions and it spits out average growth rate, estimated nute strengths etc...after the 3rd day of steady growth I've concluded that with aero I can not get my 400w hps too close as it's nearly resting on the tops of the plants
For that current setup you have running how far do you generally keep the lights up and how long do the various stages take on average?
I'm really curious to compare height and width daily growth rates from hydro to aero as well if a few people could chime in to give a realistic guideline
With regards to your new setup I'd try to build the plant chamber and res to fit snug to the walls this way ya can use less light if it's all reflected or atleast mostly it'll help keep the res cool...I'd definately prop up the res a bit even though you'll lose some vertical space from experience I know how much it sucks to crawl in and move shit around when ya can't even turn yer body a 2 or 3 inch lift will let you empty a 5-10 gallon res in just a few trips to the sink...ventilation is a big one too...but judging from the systems you've already put together I'm sure you know most of this...
it would probably make the most sense in a limited space like that to just create one plant containers that have a screw in end for the water feed if you incorporate a shutoff valve you could easily remove one from the loop for maintainance without messing with all the others
I'm almost tempted to build a setup that lets me just pick the best mother for each of a few different strains and just flower the best clone...taking care of one plant more closely seems to offer more yield when in a confined space atleast from what people are posting for cured weights
how much are people generally getting per plant? I'd assume most people have atleast 2-3 ft when done with flower is 6 feet double the weight of a 3 or generally 3 to 4 times the amount? any ideas JW?
I've been listening to the grow report to it kicks ass!!!! I actully havent used my new system yet my seedlings are in a tray and are only one week into sprout. i'm going to wait until they have 3 nodes till i put them in and start veg under a 1000w MH. look for my grow log in the next couple of weeks.
i ussually harvest on average 2-3 ounces a plant, thats a 3 1/2 foot plant. vegged for a month from seed. Pretty good results i think for doing practically nothing but res changes ph and nutes.
I find the aero systems grow very quickly and buds are alot nicer, larger more dense. They seem to adapt to the amount of nutes they can take in and fully take advantage of it. ive actually had like a 1 1/2 foot top cola weigh in at like 1.6 ounces, dry. I thought that was the coolest thing, unfortunatly the rest of the plant pulled in about 1 ounce, but i had 5 of them going and light penetration was a problem for a 400wtthps
i personally like the lsting method so size is confusing but the bud sites shoot right up to canopy level, u could get a 4 foot lst plant to harvest probably like 3-4 ounces
jack you dont use co2? what about mylar? I bought a tank and a reglator for my last grow and it gave me a noticeable difference. I got mylar for my new grow.
mylar is the ishnish. lol. It helps out so much. u will notice some of your fanleaves turn like sideways grabbing light from the walls now. I never used co2 just becuase i never really had that many plants all at once, and on 1-4 plants its not useless but not all that worth it, atleast to me. A systems + refilling i dunno i get great results now, so i dont really feel a need for one..yet.

i just made an aero cloner. i put some test cuttings in there. they were nice and straight yesterday, but today, the stems are curled up toward the lid. is this because of cold res temps?
I just took my first top from a plant today and I have it in a dome so I got my fingers crossed...unfortunately after all the reading I'm getting info that seems to contradict...I think your best bet is to keep an eye on the major things ph, light and ventilation and just tweak things slowly with regards to other factors for the closet grow...have you come up with a plan yet pete I see your mood is angry :-( so hopefully it's nothing too serious gl

yeah a 400 watt seems to be sufficient enough for 5 plants, i would use a 600 but then i would have to include a cool tube to go with it $$, but i would mostlikly get more buds, ehh future planning, i smell success.

K.P. ive never witnessed stems curling up, thats really intreasting actually, its like the first step into a swimming pool thats never heated, u dip your foot but then u regret not jumping in, lolz. Maybe it is the cold temps of the cloner, but i dont see why they would curl up, do u know what the temps are about? one thing i never invested in was a heat mat, a small one would even do the trick.
