Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
I am setting up the attic thing (House has a pointy roof and I have a flat ceiling) for the grow right now. I solved my problem of not having power by finding a power cord (the white/black/ground wire) in my attic going to the overhead fluorescent lighting (4x 2ft T8s in a skylight looking case) in my legit grow room. I opened up that light and there were the wires for 1 socket and as long as I watch my power in my room, I will stay below the 15 amp limit.
So basically I have wires, lowryder seeds coming in the mail (8 days or so untill I get them from the UK) and a dirty growing space! My dad got called to an emergency conference and my mom is working someplace in the US for the next 2 days, so I have 48 hours to clean out the attic, setup a grow area (including building supports for the equiptment), make sure the fiberglass won't catch on fire, vent it out, kill some spiders, put a cat up there to kill what I can't find, make the hydro system (bubbler or soil if I must), make the light rigs, odor control, climate control, and a trip to the grocery store to pick up milk. Whew I better get going!

Does anyone have any advice? I'm getting CFLs to light the plants so not much heat. I am getting a plastic tarp sheet thing that I am going to staple-gun tarp around my grow area to close off the air entrance/exit so I can put my filter by the air intake area. I am going to have an ionizer/air filter running on high 24/7 to get any dust/particles of fiberglass out of the air. Putting wood on the floor to spread out weight and such. I am stapling a tarp below the hydro system area too incase of spillage. And then getting milk for cherios! (this is mostly a list for me, a to-do list that everyone can see :/)
(by the way, the spot is exactly above my computer)

After shocking myself when forgetting to turn off the circuit breaker (usually I am just carefull when working with exposed wires, you know, keep either the white or black wire capped at all times...), the power went out in my room. I was determined that it was a GFI since the circuit breaker was still on, but it turns out that 4 hours of searching for that GFI and 1 8 hour nap later that it was the circuit breaker and I needed to wait for it to cool down for a few hours... so 20 hours left to get it setup and I have not even cleaned it yet :/

Cool, attic grows are easy to hide from your guests but hard to control climate.
I suggest making a roof vent and running your exhaust directly outside (scrub if you wish).
Also, get some drywall up to form the walls of your room.
I'll keep an eye on this... sounds like you have some wiring to do yet... put the veg and flower rooms on separate breakers if possible...

I would love to make a roof vent, but there are too many things preventing me from doing it (tile roofing, ect.).
I look into drywall, is it expensive? We have homes being built all around us right now so I went and got some 2x4s out of the dumpster (if I didn't have morals I would just grab some 4'x8' plywood and build a area up there) and am using blue tarps to make walls. It is really hard to move around as the area I climb up through is 1' tall and I have to crawl 5 ft to get to those photo areas, so thats why I am using 2x4s and blue tarp.

Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
I got the area first sealed off with a tarp, then I put mylar up. I still need to make the mylar door with velcro so it is lightproof, but I'm close. I am wondering if I should try a small aeroponic system to go in there. I could have a 10 gallon rubbermaid tub in there and have the resovior outside the chamber.
The left photo is pre-mylar, and the right photo is it mylared up. It isn't as bumpy as the picture looks.

I dont know exactly... But a 10 Gallon Res might be hard to A change every two weeks. As well is that a lot of weight to leav hanging on you Rafters?
I did an Attic grow once getting a 1 gallon bucket with nutes was enough pain in the ars,,, I can't imagine 10 gallons.
just a thought..

KD. He should be ok. Buy a couple 5-gallon water bottles (like the kind for the water coolers) and you can bring those up there.
For those who have attics, they can hold a decent amount of weight. I would still reinforce the rafters with crossbeams where ever I had my plants and resevoirs.
If worse comes to worse...run a hose.
"I got hose in every area code." :S2:

How many lowryders do you plan on growing?
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
I am planning on growing 4. I am still doing a 10 gallon rubbermaid container, but I am doing a Bubbling bucket instead. I have been using bubblers for a while (I grow fuckin huge sunflowers) (I grow fuckin weird tomatoes that look like watermellon)(I grow this fukin strange plant I cloned while hiking one day) and so I think I will do them as this is my first marijuana grow.
As for the water in the attic problem I am have a 10 ft ladder then shelving that is 11 ft tall that I can put the water on while climbing into my attic to then lift the bucket up. I could do 2 of those or I can use a 250gph water pump that I am going to use for my aeroponic system I will build someday. I could go buy another 10 gallon tub @ target for $7 and pre-mix everything, in the spare tub. I would then have 2 5 gallon home depot buckets to pump the water down from the attic and then I would.... Well hell. I am going to do it either way... So bubbler in the attic above where I sleep. Lowryders are really short, 18" max, low odor, but I still have an ionizer and HEPA certified air filtering system running. I love growing, building, growing big flowers (sunflowers), and soon to be growing big bud. Well enough of this stoned rambling, I'm off to change my trance to something else.

You are going to want to smooth out your mylar a lot better than that.
The other wall material you could look into is shower wall board, already glossy white, easy to keep clean, particlebard.

Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
that mylar is prolly gonna cause hotspots on your plants. im no expert but yeah..

Looking good buddy!
Nice and stealthy, i also have a stealth grow room :rastasmoke:
I'll keep a eye on this grow, should be interesting =D

I got the seeds today, 6/10 got crushed in the mail :( But I have 4 and they are sitting in a cup of water waiting to pop open and make me some bud! I think I might add a second layer of mylar that I make flatter. I ran out of duct take and I was using a staple gun :/ It is also starting to rip.
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
Where did you get your seeds from? That sucks. Some places let you return the crushed seeds if you send them back. You might want to look into that.

Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
I have a post in the soulseeds forum about it, I hope that I will get more seed so I won't have to do this grow for seed (or at least the bottom of 1 plant for seed). I have gotten all my materials needed for this grow. I have found out that using mylar in my herb grow room is actually heating up the room so much that I can't use it. The mylar reflects onto things that turns the light into heat, so I now have about 8'x5' to use in my grow space making it smoother. I also have about andother 5'x5' of mylar left on the roll, I should be good.
So here are my materials for my bubbling rubbermaid! I have one question though, how should I put my net pots? Choose the best arrangment from the pictures, and the one where they are all on one side is because the grow room goes from 30" tall to 40" tall, so its slanted at a 17* angle or something.

good luck w/ your grow...
i've got one LR right now.
its my only plant but its in a five gal w/ soil... i LST( very low stress, i just bended it parallel to the soil...
it's on it's 10th node and it has the tiniest preflowers...
you will be happy if you put your plants in the biggest containers you've got
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
Here are my supplies! I am going to get a 4th airstone today and the cut the holes in the lid once I get some feedback on the arrangment. I hope this all goes well. I'm sure it will since I have these forums to help me, can you image starting to grow without having the interweb?!?!?! I would have a plant that is all crusty and nothing like my sunflowers you see in the last photo (I know... Light is on the roots, but it is still doing ok). The big one and the little one were planted at the same time, you can tell hydro vs soil (used soil, then transfered into hydro 2 days ago).
By the way, the sponge is for the air pump to sit on so the legs don't vibrate my ceiling.

#4,
here's what i suggest
i'm on day 40 @ 24 hrs a day; and i have cheap lighting... my baby girl is a beast for LR

Thank you very much blackdog. It seems almost a joke to LST a lowryder. It is like telling a midget that he is too tall :) (But when you house is only 30-40" tall it makes sense)

I am wondering what I will name my plants.
How about
Bud (My best friend, really, thats his name)
Stinky (a.k.a. stinkyattic because stinkyattic is so inpiring)
Pakito (my favorite DJ)
Manifest Destiny (God wanted me to do this after all lol jk)

I decided that I am going to plant 2 LRs outside and behind my house. I found a place where there is a dead tree that fell over and in the center there is a gap about 3ftx4ft and nobody can see it! Only 30 yards from my back wall and you couldn't see the former plant in there. By former I mean a plant with a 3' leafspan and about 3ft high. It was green and contrasts the desert around, but I still couldn't see it from all the angles around my house. I dug it up as well as digging 1 1/2 ft deep (Where I live in the desert there is this red clay from about 4" deep to about 15" deep, then you hit rock). I filled in the hole with a mix of miracle grow tomato formula and mixed it with a potting soil with no nutrients. I put a few dead branches over the hole and now you can't tell anything changed! I am planting 2 lowryder seeds my friend is getting from me from a guy he knows who has like 100 LR classic seeds (I love how he tells me this after I pay $41 for seeds). Then I might get a male and I will have pollen for the inside grow.

I may have missed it but what is your stealth plant? Ducks foot?
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
It is in the title of the thread, but incase your computer is glitched, it is called Lowryder (Lowryder Classic from soulseed.co.uk). It doesn't get past 16" normally but I think that in a hydro setup with 2 2liter soda bottles with yeast, sugar, and water in them generating CO2, I can get them to 2 ft (2ft stem, they will be LSTed).

Awww.. I just realized that I am going to be like 5 days late harvesting for 420. Started lowryders on the 1st and they would have to be harvested on the 51st day into and they need 60 days. I could maybe get 51 if I'm lucky though.

I went up into the attic today to check out specs for the shower board, but it turns out that the mylar was just messing with the camera and it is actually preaty smooth. I know it looks like I crunched up a ball of tinfoil, unwrapped it and stuck it on the wall, but it is actually pretty well done. I am in the process of setting up my DWC, the tetra 100 gallon pump puts out so many bubbles.

i dont have anything constructive to say about the build..
i just wanted to say that im super jealous of your whole setup..i have a similar attic, but my father and i do all of our own construction.. and we have been working on our house for years, so we go up there alot and i would not be able to hide any plants up there.. :(
anyways, goodluck with your whole grow, love the pictures!

Thanks Thiskid, I am getting really excited as my plants should be popping up out of the ground any day now! I'll post some more pictures soon.

i currently have 4 in my attic, looked today and they had started showing their pistals, now think of this... i started jan. 3 and here its only march 5 and they are into flowering, using 4 4' flouros, a 3ft fluro, 3 26watt cfl and, 1 42watt cfl total about 20,000 lumens, and man o man, i can't wait,, oh yea and their only about a foot tall due to (LST).. wish i had some pics but no camera... but you do have to worry about temature regulations because i've been in the low 40's and still have beautiful plants... just watch tempature....

Doing a soil system looks really good right now. Having to bring up water and do all the PH stuff is going to suck. I am really debating if it is worth it to do a DWC. I could just pick up 6 3 gallon pots and do that. I ordered a digital TDS and PH meter already, bought the 100 gallon air pump, and I already setup the system. The only problem is that getting water up to the attic is going to be really hard. I can think of only 1 way to do it and it would take an extra $70 of items.
I think I am going to use a 250gph water pump to pump my liquids from my closet up to my attic. I can bring up 2 5 gallon homedepot buckets easily, but I think that just running a pump for 2 1/2 minutes would be easier. If I did that I could just go and buy 3 more 18 gallon tubs for $15 and have two down below, one to pump the water down to, then one with the nutrient solution to pump back up into a second container that I have and I would just take the plants and move them from the old dirty container to the new container.
It really sucks knowing that I am going to have to do a soil grow :( At least I will have supplies for a nice bubbler setup for later (Maybe in 2 months, depends on if my friend who has a apartment right by the dorms I am going to be living in wants some nice homegrown pot)
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
the best way to really get water up there is just by grabbing a old milk carton/jug and filling them up casually take one up there when noones around, then later another, y go and mess up a good plant just to turn around and mess it up in the 2 months i've been growing only had to fill the 5 gallon bucket 2 1/2 times, and already into 2 week of flowering... which i'm using 4 3 gallon buckets and really haven't had a problem but cannoing of the leaves..
-
Lowryder Attic Grow-CFLs-stealth
Are you doing a bubbler system? I have to completely change the water supply every 10-14 days, that means bringing around 13 gallons of water up there and 13 or so down every 2 weeks for 8 weeks. Soil is easier and I can just bring a male and a female and put them in a different room with a couple CFLs on them until they pollinate then move the female back after a couple days and get what pollen I can collect from the male. I am trying to make enough seeds where I can do a SCRoG grow next time. I am thinking of planting around 20 lowryders in 1 gallon grow bags, then when they show sex, toss all the males and put females into a scrog.

So far there is only 1 sprouted (the others probably won't germinate because they were partially crushed). I have it under some lights in a small pot filled with Jiffy cube filling (I forgot to buy soil since I was planning a hydro). I set up my first light strip and am working on the second. One light strip goes (42w) (30w) (42w) then the other is going to have (30w) (42w) (30w)

I have had 2 more show a taproot after switching to the paper towel method after they did not sprout. I am hoping to get more Lowryders in the mail today (I hope customs didn't snag em!) since my last order had alot crushed.
Another little update:
I now have 2 light strips that I made from 2 2"x1.5"x2' pieces of wood. There are 3 lights on each one with a (42) (30) (42) light setup. Right now I have them testing on my sun flower (heat and such) and it is growing faster than ever, so I am taking that as a good sign.

I took the babies outside of their closet today to get some fresh air, let the room cool off, and to play in the desert! There is one that is much more developed than the rest, I wish I could say that there was a bud developing already but I don't think there is.
I decided to try to germinate a seed that wouldn't, so I cracked it with some tweezers and put it in some papertowels, and 2 days later, a taproot emerged!
Right now they are in Scotts seedling soil mix, and on a water only diet. I am going to transplant them into larger 1.5 gallon pots with MG moisture control and put em on a ledge kinda on my roof when I go to Copper Mountain in Colorado for spring break, 6 days away from my babies :(

I am going out of town for a week and have decided to set them outside since my area gets to hot if I don't ventilate it at least once a day. The weather forecast isn't too bad and they could use a bit of nature's help. My biggest one has a bit of a magnesium deficiency I belive, and I am also transplanting them into bigger pots today, their final pots (well at least the 2 big ones I am.
So 1 boy (first pic), one girl (second) and the rest I don't know! All is well except for my computer fan fell on them and chopped a few leaves when I was moving am around, not bad though.
