Right or wrong match?

I'm 19, and I've been single now for about 4 years. Nothing big. Sure, I get lonely sometimes, but it's fine.

A few days ago, I met this guy who is also 19 through a friend who works with him. He's got hippie-like hair (I love long hair), he's INTELLIGENT, he makes a lot of money, and he's kind.

I don't want to seem too picky, but he compliments me WAY too much. And he's clingy as hell. When I get online, he IMs me within 2 seconds of signing on, and won't stop pestering me if I'm busy, or tired. He has a generally annoying personality when he talks to me, like an over-excited puppy. I feel very uncomfortable around him, but I don't want to be picky, nor have lax standards either. He doesn't like cannabis. Scratch that- he HATES cannabis. I am not addicted to cannabis, but I'd prefer to have someone who shares a toke or two with me.

All he does is read philosophy and older stuff like that. He's too formal a lot of the times, and 'chastises' me if I type gramatically incorrect online. And he uses those stupid AIM smilies WAY too much. As intelligent as I am, I really like pop culture. I read US Weekly, and watch E! from time to time, but I am not obsessed with celebrities.

He also has a child from another relationship. Lost all contact with the mother and the child, which is kind of odd.

So what do you guys think? Should I stay and hope for him to change, or just stop before it gets even weirder?

Stop. Anyone who doesn't take care of their child is not a good person to be around.

It's not that he doesn't, the mother moved away to the West coast, but he sends child support. The whole thing seemed kind of fishy to me, though.

Men who can be separated from their children, and not feel some sort of emotional agony always sends up a red flag to me.

And his rabid dislike of cannabis is suspicious. It's one thing to choose not to smoke...it's another thing to be dead set against it.

Just reading your post makes it seem like you really don't care for him too much. You had way more negative things to say about him than positive.

Plus, he hates weed, how 'intelligent' can he really be?

in my opinion you can never be too picky with a significant other.

Haha, yeah, I'm severing ties with him this evening. I don't care how much he 'cares' about me, fuck him and his weirdness.

PB, you need to post this in the Girl Rules thread. It should totally be tattooed on the palms of the hands of dating aged females. Then everytime we're about to make a bad dating decision, we can look at our rule on our hands, "Fuck him and his weirdness." and we will think twice before we get mixed up with unsuitable people.

if you enjoy smoking you might not want to get into a relationship with someone who hates it, ive been there it sucks. within itself its not a big deal but it make for more things to come.

I shouldn't, nor should any other person make themselves feel uncomfortable around someone in hopes they change their act. I should be comfortable with him from the start.

EDIT: I love the shirt that says "How dare I fucking talk like this in front of your shitty asshole kids!"

First off, you should realize that you have posted a thread talking about everything you hate about this guy.

Do you honestly think that you will have a future when you already see so many things you don't like?

But what would do it right off the bat for me is the kid.

Plus if he HATES mary, and you like toking it up...well... I'd break up right then.

And secondly, he DOES have many admirable qualities, but the bad outweigh the good. I was teetering on a decision, and was asking for advice. Please don't mistake my posts for general rantings...

I think it sounds like a terrible match. Look at all those damned complaints you got there....thats not a good match at all! Those little annoying things will just get more annoying.

well its obvious the dude likes you. Now no one is perfect but from what i read you obviously like him or you wouldnt post that thread. I think you should go out with the guy since u havent been in a relationship for like 4 years but the kid is a philosopher he's smart, and obviously very intellectual. Which means open minded, get with him make him smoke alil' and see how things turn out. Now i dont think u wanna wait another 4 for a crackhead or sumone penniless.

I would say have a fling with him but you did say hes clingy and that would just end up not so good. I guess the best way of telling him without hurting his feelings or owt wud be to say some shit like "im just not ready to be in a relationship yet"..

I'm not a fling kind of person... I don't want to waste time on a relationship if it's just for trial, kind of like having a relationship just to be in one; that's not me.

I don't even really want to be friends with him. He's just that odd.
