Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
this thread is a mission; a to-be collection of odd techniques and tricks that are frowned upon by the growing comunity. we would like to discuss feeding schedules of not-so-ideal chemicle fertilizers, odd or unheard of backwoods treatments or additives, funky light schedules, ghetto setups and light fixtures, diy systems, substitutes, and above all else... scientific experimentation.:stoned:
if you would like to try something pass or fail, this is the tread to post on. if you have macguiver in your family tree, this thread is for you. if you are an experiment freak, come on in and make your self welcome!:)
i ask that negativity go elsewhere; these techniques are the "you're not supposed to do that" type. we know that it's wrong... we want to see what happens.:D
with luck, some new advances in the feild of growing will be made. please respect the posters of this thread as they will respect you for doing so.
remember, a picture is worth a thousand words, so let's make it colorful.
DISCAIMER
i'm currently constructing a book with this title; if you'd like to be a part of it, let me know... i'm using this thread to kick around ideas, and would love to have your oppinions and strategies included. however, i'm not using anything unless you openly state that you give permission.
there will be two of us organizing and leading this thread; myself and mrs. greenjeans
so, let the ghettoism begin :) have fun doing things right the wrong way ;)
Scarlet Sky :abduct:
ps, my chapters will be going in here and there. i obviously cant type it all in one go, so be patient and keep checking in for new stuff:p

OK I'll start
What happens when you ignore the rules, water with untreated ph 8 well water, give em no nutes and flower a clone the day of transplant in a beercup about 2 feet away from the light?
This after 28 days...
I guess this is the basic concept of SCROG growing, dozens/hundreds of tiny plants under your light? Can't say she'll yeild much, but isn't it cute?!!?!?
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
OMG that poor plant! LOL! You're mean!
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
Naw its not mean... its..an experiment :P Tough love. I wanted to see how big it would get - I am actually going to do a bunch of them next time, and try and get really good detailed pics/descriptions of nutrient deficiencies by depriving them of individual components and micronutes. There is an excellent guide out there, the old OG guide, but some of the pics are real bad - I'm going to try and get some that are more consistent.
How about this for ghetto - use 12 of these beer cups, in a styrofoam beer cooler for a tray, and set up a flood and drain with a party ball or keg as the reservoir? Beer can reflectors for the lights? Woohooo just needs a restraining order and a trailer!

actually, it's the idea behind SOG (sea of green) growing. lol, i have some flowering clones in the same sized cup! harvest in a week to two... looks like 1/4-1/2 oz each.
thanx tok; a beer cup grow log would be excellent, if you would like to do the honors... that's one of my chapters ;)

Doh, thats what I meant, SOG - the SCR is the screen LOL
I don't think I'll have time to do a 16oz cup grow log for a couple of weeks though - I don't have the room right now and other priorities are on the burner - but thanks for asking! I'll let ya know if anything changes
-

Ghetto is my middle name! (actually my middle name is filth but I'm having it legally changed) :D
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
this is cool. no worries, but it is not advanced techniques...so I am moving to basic growing...You will get more response, and it will be a good discussion for the newbs. Peace

I guess my dating was off on that first post - shes at day 35 today according to my cup. I dont think I was that hammered when I wrote it, but maybe when I posted :P Strangely, looks like it may finish quicker than the ones I treat regularly - judging from the trichome color - and the adverse conditions don't seem to be keeping her from frosting up nicely for scale! Amazing what no nutes and ph 7-8 water can do..
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
I'll take mine with no ice!!!!!

Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
I can't belive I have never seen this thread. . . :D
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
too bad. You could've grown an ounce fron that plant iif you had transplanted to a 3g pot.
tooo bad... yeah it is funny though. Peace

I can't wait for the smoke report!

tokudai, how much did you yield off that little thing? and how long do you think it would take to turn a seed into somehing as puny as that?
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
I dunno, its still in flower - day 47ish. I don't think I'd do it to a seed, the yield is going to be next to nothing, plus a seed would get rootbound in that cup in no time. Maybe a gram or two - lol an 1/8th? I just had an extra clone cause I cut too many and they all rooted - I couldn't throw it out. That would be mean! I wanted to see what no nutes and my high ph water did

I put my little beanling on 12/12 today. She's sleeping now. Ssshhh.

You want ghetto?
Check out my first 400 watt HPS light about 5 years ago I bought it off ebay for about $69 shipping included.
This was an industrial shop light. You cant tell but the hook was two small for the clothing rod, so I used rope to tie it to the rod.
Sold it on ebay for $80.00 a few years ago.
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
LOL! I almost bought one just like that! Then my buddy let me borrow his light.

Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
cool thread lets keep it going! :rastasmoke:
love the beer cup grow! lol
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
if you think about it you can have 2 outdoor harvests/year if you say, train some hard core mamas and then clone them and grow that 2 times/year hahaha, tricky. But say you vedge the clones for a month and flower them in feb (depends where you are of course, like sothern Cali for example)you have harvest in april before light cycle really changes and make some crazy early spring harvest strain lol
-
Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
Day 50 - I guess I don't need to worry about flushing since I didn't use any nutes? ;)
sik2006 thatd be great to lbe able to pull 2 OD harvests a years - not gonna happen for me though, I cant start outside til mid may sposedly!

Well, someone tried to unload one of those on me recently. Had to turn it down. Wonder why. LOL.
Tukodai...damn...for a crappy little plant, that thing sure does have some nice trichomes. Nice for a j or two. :D Cool.

So very glad you fixed that. I'm getting goosebumps trying to abstain from going around yelling at everyone who messes that up. I was SURPRISED that Tukodai was the one who did that. I'm sure it was an honest :stoned: mistake. Is there a thread out there that compares SCROG to SOG? I'd love a link if anyone has one. Where did all the friggin' stickies go, btw.
Cool thread, Scarlet. :) You could consider the Original Rubbermaid Bloombox pretty ghetto. Maybe I'll throw some pics of it up here in a little. :)

Doing Things Right the Wrong Way: The Guide to Growing Ghetto
Fresh on tap - day 67
Even for a little f00ker like this one, look how much root mass is needed to support it! It was totally rootbound when removing it, just one big clump in a 16oz shape.
Started showing all sorts of signs of deficiencies in the last few days(as well it should have!) and wierd colors. Remember, no nutes ever, flowered on day of xplant, and watered with straight well water - way high (7+) ph and 170ppm. Still didn't keep it from packing on the trichomes though, which to me shows its mostly in the genes.
Environment, in this case, it appears didn't do much to hinder the potency, only yield and overall health/growth rate. I'll know for sure when I taste test/compare, but the ones I treated with the normal bloom routine - food, flushing, etc seem just as frosty and smell the same - just bigger.
From the close up, it looks to me like it actually looked better 2 weeks ago, although this "harvest" is only a couple of days past the range I usually cut this strain (63ish). Perhaps the rootbound condition and poor environment caused it to mature earlier, as I alluded too earlier.
I guess if I learned anything from this, its don't underestimate your container sizes! ;P
