Wish me luck on becoming Legal :)

Tomorrow is my doctor's appointment and I'm really hoping I can convince him to write me a recommendation for medical marijuana to ease my Crohn's disease symptoms. I don't think he will, but I'm very hopeful. I have been thinking about changing doctors anyway so if he doesn't write me this and I do change, I think when I look for a new doctor I'll try to find out his opinions on medical marijuana beforehand.

I have a feeling he will just want to write me a prescription for some other useless drug with insane rare side effects rather than write me off for medical marijuana, but I've got to hope! Wish me luck!

Dude just see a special doctor to prescribe it to you.... that's what i'm gonna do.

yeah just find a doc who is 420 friendly, man i wish i could get that here cause ive got crohns too.

That's what I will do if my doc doesn't sign off, but if I can get my doc to sign off on it I don't have to pay a different doctor because none of them accept insurance, so this can save me $150 or however much it'd cost to see a special doctor.

I did ask him, and the long story is he didn't sign off, but he didn't seem to know marijuana has shown to improve Crohn's disease. I told him I've been smoking for about 2 weeks and he seemed curious as to if I have improved at all, but unfortunately to be honest I don't feel any different, it helps me eat a little, but so far doesn't do much for my stomach cramps or some other stuff.

I'm hoping maybe I need a different strain, I thought I read a post that mentioned a few certain strains that are better for Crohn's, but until I get legal I get whatever I can.

I think I'll let my doc do some of his own investigating and see what he comes up, he didn't seem to know anything about the medical marijuana process, I had to tell him that it isn't actually prescribed, he signs a letter and I take it to a dispensary. I felt kinda weird telling my doctor how the medical marijuana process works, he thought it had to be specifically mentioned in the California Law, however it does not, but it is recognized as a condition treatable by Marijuana in Canada and Washington state, (unless I'm wrong on that one), and after that he seemed very interested. I'm not so good at doing research so it might be better to let a professional do the work for me, I might find out things I never would have known otherwise lol

I hope he does get some good research, just imagine how many people he could help that he treats on a daily basis if he knows of a new legal way of treating Crohn's disease. I told him I wasn't comfortable with starting any new medication just yet, and wanted to give my little test some more time to see if I notice any improvements, because it sounds like the next medication to try are some more...hmm, how can I say, pain in the ass types of medication lol Remicade and I forget the other one, something with an I, but neither sounded like fun and he said both were pretty much medication that once you start, you never stop.

I really hope I notice improvements with marijuana, legal or not

That's cool. My doctor ATM seems to pretty much work for the pharmecutical companies so I doubt he would even consider signing the recommendation. I doubt my families insurance would cover the cost to see one of those special doctors too.

Now, let's say he does sign me off because of my condition, is there any way he could get in trouble or loose his license? I know some doctors have, but it sounds like they were more sketchy and might have lost it not specifically for recommending medical marijuana, but not for doing full evaluations on patients.

No, under CA prop 215 section 2c it states the following:

"(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no physician in this state shall be punished, or denied any right or privilege, for having recommended marijuana to a patient for medical purposes."

I think you may be a little confused about how the process works nailhead. After all, you stated you aren't good at research and wanted your doctor to find out for you. The thing is, this isn't for your doctor it is for you. If he didn't know about medical marijuana laws to at least some degree you should ditch him as your physician anyways since he obviously doesn't stay up on current issues - regardless of if they affect him or not.

You could have seen your doc for crohns disease just as a regular checkup, making sure to get all your documentation and prescribed drugs. You then take this information and your id to a "special doctor" (whom by the way is the one that can issue you a script for MJ) and HE is the one who will evaluate your medical condition based on your records. You then take the script he writes you to your local dispensary and they issue you your medical marijuana card.

What is your route if ingesting the weed? It's something he will ask you. I am no medical professional, but I would imagine excessive coughing only would worsen how your ass feels.

That is just being blunt about it. I know, that disease sucks. I know a family friend who has it...it is really not fair for anyone to suffer from that.

I was wondering if you would make something like cannabutter and spread it on toast? Or would you dissolve it in 150 proof booze?


As for vaporizers...I never used one and don't know if it makes you cough. If it doesn't' you will somehow have to explain that to the doc.

I do wish you the best in your search for relief. I hope thats what you get. If he wants to write you a script for an opiate...don't say another word to him and just leave.

I hate it how so many docs today are willing to pump out the opiates...and turn their back to drug with no overdose in recorded history. Gee...what would you want.

I read on ganjagrocer.com somewhere that if you are not prescribed the bud then you get your money back for the appointment.

I have crohn's disease also and I find that vaporizers help so much. One hit off of one and the cramps are gone. An entire bowl I can run around eat click my heals together etc. But if i go 7 days without smoking I get to a deterotive state where i cant' even walk :( it sucks.

Good luck nailhead - I suffer with IBD (thankfully not anywhere near as bad as Crohns) and weed really helps with my symptoms.
