buying a car can be frustrating

ive been looking for cars for the past week and a half now.. i want to get a good reliable car of course, something that isnt to big (ive been driving a yukon for a while and its a fucking boat)
every car i go look at that seems to be nice always has those certain flaws.. and the little things matter, like no AC, the hood doesnt shut right, its got damage here, the interior is fucked, etc..
so ive pretty much came down to a few last cars we think might be the ones.. were checkin them out today:thumbsup:

this is a 98 civic EX with only 100k, and they rebuilt with a new engine at 87k miles. has a AEM intake and some other shit, and a real nice sound system i guess...

the other car is a 1992 toyota celica GT all gloss black, but it has 170k miles.:wtf: ... my dad has the listing somewhere i dont know where it is so i cant post pics, but im sure everyone knows what a 92 celica GT is just google if you dont know


i like the civic but my dad likes the GT, what do you guys think?
both the cars bodies are in perfect condition inside and out...

What's even more frustrating is buying a car only to find out that the gas tank leaks if you fill it up more than 3/4th of the way. But the Celica gt sounds cooler.

ouch, ya i make sure i know everything about the car before im going to buy it..

but ive never really looked at a celica GT before, does anyone know how they are???
its a toyota i know its reliable but anyone have experience?

they are very reliable cars and
the ex gets really good mpg
my buddy totaled his civic in october
last year and is STILL looking for another honda

if the body on that civic is good those are awesome daily drivers, dealership i worked at considered cars like that "gems" real good re sale value.

definitely the civic, it has a lot less miles than the celica plus a new engine. the sound system and the air intake are a nice plus as well.

Civics are good on gas, and the engines and all can be upgraded. Like the things you see on the Fast and Furious. Maybe not with all nitrous, but you get the idea. You can soup it up.

As for Celica, an old buddy of mine, he had a GF who had a red one, and that car could move man. It was really fast, but not very spacious. It had a really low roof, and if you're as tall as me (6'4), I had to bend my neck sideways to sit in the back seat. I found it very cramped, but very fast.

Not to mention you said it has 170k on there already. I would avoid that one my friend.

I'd go with the Civic. The insurance is probably cheap, it's cheaper to maintain, good on gas, and you can do as much upgrading to the car as you want as there are many of body kits out there for them.

Have you looked at them yet? Can't really choose without touching it. Are you paying cash?

Yeah, definitly go with the civic. In the job your in those cars are perfect. If you dont get this one, keeping looking for civics. Great gas mileage and reliable. Those cars easily get over 200,000 miles lifetime.

yes im paying cash.. we are looking at them today, there is no way in hell id say im buying it before i got there lol..

as for the head room, im 5'5 im a short guy so its cool.. my dad knows someone who has had 4 celicas and they love them, they had a celica go up to 400,000 miles before it broke down (thats why my dad wants to look at this one)

ya im not going to do all that lol, the most ill do is get tighter rims and do more to the engine.. its gotta be fast

I would go with the civic. I put about 10 grand into my ex girlfriends civic before we broke up. It was a pretty good and reliable car.

If a 98 Civic has already had a rebuild, and at only 98K, then chances are it had been beat on, and there may be other problems with the car. Beware, those motors are pretty bulletproof - blowing one up isnt that easy (without nitrous..) Parts will be much easier to find and cheaper than the celica though

The celica will definitely handle better than the civic, and if you can do a compression test on it, it should show whether the motor is still strong. other than that, its got 6 more years on it - does the interior and paint show that?

The engine is a 2.0 jdm b20b from a 1999 crv 40k miles on the new engine has intake headers and 2 1/4 piping to the back, no grinds on tranny, very clean interior
they say they took well care of the car and didnt race it or put stress on the car.. thats good to hear:thumbsup:

Anyone that swapped a B20B in and said they didnt race is lying to you :) And unless they got the whole front clip and can show you the odometer then theres no way to know the mileage.. trust me I've imported hundreds of motors/clips... Compression check is your friend

It may not pass smog, depends on where you live (I love my emissions free zip code). Parts for that motor will be expensive, and may be hard to find. it may be tough to insure...

Looks clean though, and the B20 is a nice litle upgrade to the US Non GSR motors

well as far as parts, lots of people up here have honda civics and integras and shit they are all around, and lots of my friends know where to get parts and know how to install them etc

All fine and good, but what if you get into an accident and in the investigation it shows its not a stock motor - could bite you in the ass if they decide to not cover it because of an undisclosed modification..

As far as the car itself though, the integra is a great platform, and if everything was done right, you should have no problems with it. Do you happen to know what mounts they used to install the B20B - is it a widely available kit or did they just hack a few motor mounts?

A bit of quick input here...your dad likes Toyota Celica and you like the Honda Civic, ever think about a Toyota Corolla? Less expensive than either the Civic or the Celica,as reliable as the Honda (I've owned both) better Ins. rates, and as a bonus Corollas are generally owned by more conservetive (sp) drivers,meaming they are not raced and taken better care of.

No its FWD...You are confusing it with a GTS Corolla Two Door,Mine is a DX 4-Door,4-age 1600 cc, 1-Bbl carb, It's not the sport model,thats why I bought it. I know a 4-door DX is just a plain jane,boring thing but I don;t wanna buy a car every 5 years I'll have this car for 20 years at least. and with the price of gas 37 MPG is the way to go

Dark colors are harder to keep looking clean so if you care how it looks there is more maintenance it that department... Agreed Honda ia a very reliable economical car...

My 84 accord had 365 thousand miles on it when i got rid of it... as long as you change the oil and replace the timing belt every 70,000 or so you should have no probs with the engine...

ya i want to look at that one today, we also check this one out yesterday and its real nice but like shakes some when you drive it... so we would have to fix that asap other then that it was nice.. its very clean, only 112k miles..:thumbsup:

Skaking could be something simple or major... I would be concerned it was in an accident... could be as stupid as a wheel balance...

steer clear... it's very hard to make a car right again after an accident... it would have to be a pretty damn good bodyshop to get it right...

fucking insurance agent is being gay actually, hes saying anything lowered, anything with even a fucking spoiler attracts cops, so my insurance could be high because i might get pulled over a lot or some bullshit. man wtf is that problem

The motor in my van just went out, so I am on the new car hunt as well. I really want a late 90's Cadillac. There are 97-98's around here for $4,800-$5K with around 100K miles. I will probably end up getting some piece of shit that will last like a year tops though. I hate buying new cars. Such a gamble.
