Notes on smoking resin

Ok, I am unfortunately rather knowledgable about smoking resin. I have indetified two distinct types of resin and the preferred smoking method for each.

A. Resin straight out of a pipe. This is usually tarry, gooey stuff, unless it is cold, but it will soften up quite nicely under a little heat. This stuff will get you much higher smoking it by knife hits. You don't have to worry about it melting down into your pipe and clogging, and it's a bit more economical.

B. Resin that has been boiled out of a pipe (we will ignore resin removed with solvents, as that would be really nasty to smoke and wold probably make you very ill). After you filter the *lovely* smelling water and catch all the resin, the logical next step is to squeeze all the moisture out and let it dry before smoking it. Smoking wet resin is a huge exercise in futility. This stuff usually hardens up pretty damn hard, and doesn't melt easily. Knife hits of this is out of the question. Don't ask why, but it takes too long to burn off, and instead of the rush of smoke like from type A resin, you get a wispy trail of smoke that lasts until the resin is gone. Type B resin should be flattened into a disk while it is still semi-maleable. After it dries, place the disk in your bowl of choice and have at it. It takes a long time to burn off, and you get pretty damn stoned.

I just smoked a few hits of B, and it made me think of posting this.

SMOKING SOAP = SMOKING POISON

Recently RED EYE EXPRESS magazine highlighted the DANGERS of smoking bad quality hash, some of which contains very little cannabis at all. We refer to both "Soap" and the soft black gunk often referred to as "Squiggy Black", "Affy Black" or "Pakki Black". The article explained that even the better soap bars weighing about 250 grams contain less than 10 grams of cannabis pollen (resin glands) and up to 200 grams of ground-up shade leaf, along with various noxious substances like glue to bind it, and colouring agents.

Here are some of the other substances found in this bad quality cannabis sold by rip-off dealers:

beeswax, boot polish, animal turds, turpentine, henna, ground coffee, milk powder, pine resin, barbiturates, ketamine, aspirin, glues & dyes, Carcinogenic solvents such as Toluene and Benzene and many other unidentified and possibly DEADLY chemicals.

These SOAP bars are not available from coffee shops in Holland or from farms in Morocco. They are often made in Spain or England.

SOAP bar costs about £1,500 a kilo in the UK, that's £1.50 a gram: that's £5.25 an EIGHTH
If you buy it you are allowing yourself to be RIPPED OFF by unscrupulous dealers who either do not know or do not care about you and your health and may be interested only in the HUGE PROFITS they make.
SOAP is poisonous - it is a danger to health and it gives real cannabis a bad name. It should always remain illegal.
The ONLY way to stop this is to tell your dealer and REFUSE TO BUY BAD QUALITY

Anthropology and forensic science combine in a long overdue research project to uncover the hidden horrors of 'Soap'.

Neil Montgomery a Social Anthropologist doing doctoral research at Edinburgh University has teamed up with GW Pharmaceuticals to survey and analyse the numerous impurities that permeate the poor quality cannabis resin that is the most commonly available form of cannabis used in the UK. Known as "Soap Bar", due to the shape of the quarter-kilo bars it is formed into, this notorious 'hash' has for a long time had the reputation among cannabis users of being little more than poison; a noxious substance that has been tolerated because nothing else was available.

Anecdotes speak of the stuff being mixed with rubber, plastic, wax, diesel, soil, molasses, ghee, even boot polish, and the list goes on. While investigating potential sources of 'soap' samples, CRISP (Cannabis Resin Impurities Survey Project) has started to collect 'soap' stories; anecdotes about suspected contaminants and unpleasant side-effects. The end result of CRISP will be a rigorous forensic analysis of the chemical constituents of 'soap' woven through an appreciation of notions, perceptions and recollections of 'soap' drawn from Montgomery's broader ethnography on the use of cannabis. This crucial research hopes to illuminate the health hazards associated with what has become the staple in the diet of UK cannabis consumption and link the gradually developing awareness of the quality of 'soap' with the recent increase in the home cultivation of cannabis plants.

Neil Montgomery, a recognised expert on the cultural aspects of cannabis use, is the Consultant Anthropologist to the UK Medicinal Cannabis Project, which is being conducted by GW Pharmaceuticals under license from the Home Office.

Man i new there was something dodgy about smoking solids i hate the taste of and the high i get head aches from smokin the shit, when i smoke the green im fine jus a nice clean high :)

I have usually smoked 'hash' for the very reasons outlined in your post (ie, availability), but am fast changing my habits.
But, I 'need' to be stoned to function properly (ie, physical pain, mental attitude) :(

Ye is good to no how much crapy things they put in resine to make its weight more tut

herbaholic makes a very good point: typically hash and brick ARE shit, poisonous, and bad to get high with. but Lonerstoner was referring to the resin from your own pipe...

I have also had many a time when the pipe cleaning was simply to get at the gooey sticky resin inside...I once bought a chambered pipe with a bunch of extensions so I would have about 2 feet of tubing to scrape clean (it took a helluva long time, but I was burning blades for the rest of the weekend with what I got!)

hash and resin are completely different things...resin is simply condensed smoke from whatever you were burning in the pipe. Hash is mass-produced shitbricks that will probably kill you quickly.

see my above post, Proof, and consider yourself corrected! commercially available hash is mass-produced, weak, and dangerous. You can make high-quality hash on your own, but its typically not worth the effort or money. Resin is simple as 1)open pipe 2)remove resin 3)smoke resin 4)stoned.

what about hardened resin? scraped one of my bong bowls and big chunks of resin came out but they were rather hard and don't melt when burned, they kinda burn like coal

i don'tlike resin but because of current economic factors(car accident) i can't afford my precious chronic and i would rather smoke chronic resin then shwag

if you get the really hard chunks that burn instead of melt, its best to put a little ball of it on top of a bowl of weed...then you light the resin ball, and get it going like a coal on a hookah, use it to light the rest of the weed and go fly on a magic carpet ride! weeeee

I think you guys should go do some more research because Hashish of good quality is an excellent high , the "soap" you refer to is something to avoid but don't confuse it with quality gear.

I have been tokin for 25 years so I'm not exactly new to the game.

your spot on Herba..solids as I've said in the past is man made same as tobacco although i would bet that tobacco would be less harmful I've heard that solids contain a high amount of prescription drugs..
