Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
I had these precious few seeds given to me (11) so I'll try and make something of them. I figure that I'll try to clone one of the females and also polinate some bud for seed stock. The time line for this grow will be "seat of my pants", that is, I may veg for less than 8 weeks before sexing and flowering.
No photos yet (of a planter full of dirt...lol) Though I have put all the 11 seeds in one of the windowbox planters like I am using in my Bubblegum Grow. I'll be using a 250W HID to start (for the first couple of weeks) with but will doing the rest of the grow with my flourescent luminaires. I'll also be planting two other planters with some kitchen herbs (3 varieties per planter).

Ten of the eleven seeds have sprouted. Still not really photo-worthy yet. None of the fine herbs have shown yet though. Nice and warm with the 250W lamp in the utility room (same place I started the BG grow).

hey shov, 10/11 is pretty damn good! I'll be keeping a watch on this log. :jointsmile:
You're making me look bad because I've been putting off starting my new log. ;)

Thanks Canuck, but I'm just anxious for some different high. I've been smoking this great Bubblegum for years now.
Actually I jumped the gun...the 11th broke out right after my last post. Probably not much to post for a while (we hope).

That's why ya got 11 Shov!
So you'd be guaranteed 10 poppers!
:D
That x is very nice.
Vigorous growth, lighter green, wide leaf blades.
I kept a mom of it when I bailed.
She's still doing great despite her plant-sitter's inexperience with indoor growing!

Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
Yup, got 11. The afghani with the medley (prolly Bogbubble, Bogglegum and Blue Moon Rocks) sounds yummy, no? I hope to have a nice mother too as well as seed stock. I'll likely have to start an outdoor grow of BG when I return from Tortola in May just to have enough smoke.

Hey Shov I've got moms of both bogglegum and BMR, and soon to get my hands on some SourBubble seeds if all goes well in Toronto this week.
If you reveg your burliest male Af X BOG I'll see what I can do about getting a BX going on those. That was kind of in the plans before I had to ditch.
Shoot me an email.

Seems like the seedlings did not like their home. They stretched something crazy for that 250W lamp. I had one fall over and shrivle up like It was planted in a sandbox on the 4th of July. Another one, leaning for the light broke over and it isn't looking good. So, I had to run out an get a shop light out of my shop. Clean it and paint the reflector. bought new 5K lamps, bought chain, hooks and such and set it up for these plants. I'm feeling pretty good with the soil, as I've used the same batch last time. I think the lights will turn them on. I put the 250W HID away for now.

Seedlings are looking good, eh?
I plan to germinate a couple of bag seeds also, just for the halibut.

Here's a little over 2 weeks growth for the Afghani X Bog Medley. The Three Little Pigs are bagseed of unknown origin and age. Probably pretty old as they didn't want to wake up very well. Only these three popped out of a dozen seeded.
I'm still using (2) F32T8 5000K lamps for now. When the BG grows finish I'll move them to the other lights.

Healthy lookin' seedlings ya got there shov. :) I like those fat leaves too. Got similar ones on my northerns.

Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
Today I moved the Afghani X BOG Medley, bagseed grow. I cleaned the area and the equipment from the Bubblegum grow. I hung two (2) lamp T-8 5000K reflectorized fixtures and set up the (4) T-5 for later side-lighting. I plan on doing a number of different things with these plants (cloning, seeding) but the trick is, I plan on using the mentioned 344 watts of florescent lamps using the day-light lamps for vegging and the warm white 3000K lamps for flowering. I'm starting with 12 seedlings now and hope to bring at least six females and a male to flowering.
Back it up, Bruce....First off this morning, I noticed a plant wilted flat :eek:
I watered it and hoping for the best. I'm not used to these small pots. Usually I have as many as 200 seedlings squirming around in a planter. :)
I think it's gonna make it though. I drilled drain holes in the three pots that didn't have 'em and set all the pots in a plastic tray.

Well wouldn't ya know, I was doing a little reading... The BOG used NL#5 as a breeder when he was developing his Bogglegum strain! That explains a lot about some of the leaf structure I've seen pop up in that mix!
If the NL-style leaves are any indication, a couple traits that his NL derived strain are also supposed to carry are:
-low odor
-mold resistance
-creeper stone
-lightning fast finish, as little as 44 days :eek:
Oh and shov, my prodigy put her Afghan x BOG girl into flower last week... pics to come if I get over there to see her, lol :D

I went away for a few days this week for work. Meanwhile, we got this cold-ass weather. The grow area dropped to 60*F. Not much progress at that temperature, so I added a 250W HID for the heat. Well, we hope for better days ahead.

Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
Yeah we got that here too... temps dropping to 0'F overnight... they say this is the end of it, just tonight, warming up tomorrow, and after that, more springlike weather. Keep warm!:D
-
Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
Well, here's a photo of the plant flat. As I said, the plants didn't do much growing during that cold week that I was away. I watered them up good, expecting tempuratures in the mid-high 70s to dry 'em up pretty quickly. Such was not the case. They looked cold and wet. I have one plant in ICU (no cameras permitted...<G>)
The three bag-seedlings are almost two weeks old (since planting). They are doing pretty good, I think. They have the yellow band around the stem.

Heh, hope that plant in ICU recovers quickly. I think the bagseedlings look good too. They're about what I got in 2 weeks so I hope it's good. ;) The afghanix's are a bit small but look pretty good other than that. :jointsmile:

into 10" to 12" pots. All looking fine this am (the ICU plant is stable).
I lit the additional (4) lamp T-5 side light fixture and removed the 250W lamp I was using for a heat source. It's still not too warm but close enough.

First three are the newer, bag seed plants. Almost three weeks. They look like a nice hearty indica, no?

Here are some of the Afghani X Bog Medleys at six weeks from planting seed.
[attachment=o126630] [attachment=o126631]
Here are the (3) bagseedlings at almost four weeks. All the plants shown have been FIMed. It's strange, when I cut it I really couldn't see what I was doing very well though I tried to be most careful. After a few days I see a missing stem here, a whole leaf there...<G>
[attachment=o126632]
Here's an overhead view. There are some fat leaves in there!

Thank you. the little darlings are growing like weeds. Hopefully They will start to sex in the next couple of weeks I'll probably use the first fem for slips (mom). I'd also like to polinate a fem with the same Afghani X male for seed stock. Any comments?

These nine afghani X BOG Medley are very hearty and stout. about 9-10 nodes each. Seven weeks since planting
[attachment=o128398]
In the front row, against the T-5s are three bagseed plants they are every bit the same characters as the AfghaniXs. At only 5 weeks since planting, they have a few less nodes. And actually, all the plants have been FIMed almost two weeks ago.
[attachment=o128399]
Two days ago I did feed them with MG All Purpose 24-8-16. <G> I just thought these plants looked so tough that they'd like it! lol I think I make keep these in veg for probably three more weeks to let the bagseeds have a total of eight weeks. If these are anything like the BG I've been used to, they should start to show sex any time now and definetly within 10 weeks of vegging.

Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
I forgot to mention, over the past weeks the grow location was very cool most of the time. In the low-low 60s.... I've not used any HID lamps, which is also "the aim" I think it's growing along very well and I wonder what the effect of the low temps are (maybe the stoutness, no stretching...I dunno. Whadu think?)
SHov
-
Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
I don't think temps are going to affect stretching much if any, shov...looks like those fluoro's are nice and close..that will definitely keep them nice and bushy if you keep them as close as possible..
I'm doing a little expirament myself with my flowers..got that cool tube and the lamp's within 6 inches or so of the tops, and they don't seem to be stretching quite as bad as they were when it was like 17-19 inches..growth is picking up nicely since it's gotten closer.

Grow is looking great Shov. I'll be sure and check back soon!

Shovelhandle wrote ..."These nine afghani X BOG Medley are very hearty and stout. about 9-10 nodes each. Seven weeks since planting"
I don't know how I thought that but today I counted six - seven nodes on all all the plants, even the younger baggies. I dunno why. Modern mathh, I guess. <G>
My thought with the all flourescent is energy efficiency. I had as much as 780 watts of lighting in the same area during the last grow. Often I used the HID just to warm up the plants some. I think the vegging is going just as well this time. We'll see what happens when flowering. Last time only some of the plants were close to the HIDs and the results for all the plants were very good.
Oh, and thanks for the advice, folks.

Hi shov!
I've got one of the girls from that BOG x (Afghani dream x stinky's homegrown line) in flower atm and she is starting to smell amazing, like perfume... just like her afghani dream ancestor. I'm not sure what other phenos are gonna pop up but the one I'm running is shore nice!
-
Shov's Afghani x BOG Medley Spring Grow
I took some cuttings from the bottoms of the plants. They are not identified as to parent so sexing will have to wait. It's just a trial run of my cloning technique on these 12 or so. I am using MG rooting dirt and clonex powder. Lighting is from a 26W CFL (as is the heat source). At night I move it to the top of the fridge (76°).
Well, I can't get the picture utility to work...maybe later.
