Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
So I've got these 6 bagseed plants that are 4 weeks old and I'm pretty much abusin' them (two of them browned up a bit, I kinda starved them we think) but the other 4 are super happy, so I decided to FIM em and LST em. I FIMmed on veg day 31,and I started LST'ing them the next day. I've been tying them down little by little but they're all bent 90 degrees over the soil then 90 degrees to the side. Today is veg day 33 which means I'm waiting until Feb 13th to switch to 12/12.
It's amazing to see all the branches reaching to the lights just waiting to be colas. I'm curious to see what the fimmed areas will look like grown in.
Anyway, obligatory pics. The kinda starved plants are the two right in front but why hide mistakes...

Hi HERB :)
DO you have holes in the botom of those trash cans..(drainage)?
Are you using anything besides CFLs?
cheers
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Yes and yes.
I drilled three 5/8" holes in each container before filling them.
There are 2 175w MH lights with 10000 kelvin bulbs in weird pendant fixtures that I recycled from a saltwater reef tank I used to keep.
I need to get a HPS soon...
I have some more pics that i'll post in a bit but I'm watching 30 rock.

Oh and my Volcano came back from being repaired today and hmmmmmmm ooh so nice.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
OK, here are some pics.
The first two are of the curve of one or two of the plants. I can't remember which...
The third is a detail of the fimmed top of one of the plants. Wondering what to expect from here.
The fourth is a detail of the growth of the area beneath the fimmed top.
And the fifth is a closeup of something, can anyone speculate as to what the white growths are?
Enjoy.

Female Pre-flowers hot damN!

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
yeh female pistils...
btw, plants dont go 'brown' when they are starving.. they go bright green..;)
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Well, the actual problem with the two plants is not really clear. They perked up bigtime when I finally started feeding them (I waited about a week too long) so regardless of what actually happened, I'm happy that they're doing better.
Super psyched about the preflowers. I guess I'll look for more indications from the other plants.

Some pics from tonights bondage...
One plant, lst'd, growing. I think it looks like a sunflower on its side with the top bent at a 90. Female.
The first closeup is of some pistils from the same plant. It's blown out but it shows the little fingers/whatever...
The second closeup is of the FIMmed budsite, approximately 5 or 6 days post FIMming. Wondering what will come of this.
Super stoked to know I have some females from this bagseed. I'm considering cloning the 2 confirmed females...
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
I have 3 females, all FIMmed and LST'd, trying to get them to turn back around the container in a 180; anyway, it's been 8 (or 10) days since I FIMmed them and I was wondering if the FIMmed area looks like it's recovered enough to switch to 12/12?
When you make the switch, do you go gradually or just let em have it?

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
heat stress....place a fan on the bulbs
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Nah, it's not too much heat, the temp is a perfect 76 in there, top to bottom, and the mh lamps are like 18" off the top of the plants. There are CFL's but they're far enough away too, I think it's just the plant kinda freaking out due to the FIM. They look better, now, but it's darkness in there currently so I'll try to snap some photos later tonight.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Thanks for the props on the preflowers pic. I'm just happy to have them. I received my 400w HPS today, so when the lights came on I installed the HPS, and while doing that I moved the plants around the house a bit and took photos of the 3 preflowering females. Nothing closeup, just to show shape and size a bit.
The first pair of photos are of the same plant, the 2nd pair is of the next female and the last is the top of the 3rd female.
Enjoy.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
quick question, sorry i am a noob. what does FIM, LST, and nute mean?
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
FIM = Fuck I Missed --> a technique by which one cuts off part of the top of the growing, vegetating plant in an attempt to grow more than one top cola.
LST = Low Stress Training --> a technique where one ties the plant over at an angle while growing to expose more of the lower branches to light.
Nute= nutrients --> Plant food. Very important.
Now for some gratuitous plant shots. There are 5 females in the room, which is good and bad, as I'm only allowed 3 flowering females in my state, so I'm giving 2 of them to a local dispensary, which in turn is giving them to an indigent patient that they just setup a grow room for.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Hey, herbaltivo.
Bout time I made it to check this one out. Looks like you are on the right track. Glad to see you have some confirmed females. Good luck with the flowering. Too bad you can't keep all five. Mind my asking which state that is?
The only thing I could possibly suggest is moving that powerstrip in the back...especially if you mist your plants. Humidity and such. You know. I know I might get called out because I have a powerstrip in the Cab of Life, but "I" don't mist, and the plants aren't touching it...so it's not really a problem.
All in all, good looking grow man. Looking forward to seeing the results. Take it breezy.

No, I don't mind telling you what state I'm in, I'm medical, and as stated above, I'm even following the rules :-p
Colorado only allows you to have 3 mature flowering plants at one time. I wouldn't be growing at all if it wasn't allowed for me, as the risk is too great...(kids, property, etc.)
Simple posession in Colorado is not a big deal, as anything under 1oz is decriminalized anyway, and for medical patients, we can posess 2oz of manicured product, aside from drying plants, which are still considered "flowering" if they're still hanging, drying, etc.
As for the powerstrip, this closet is a work in progress, and when I mounted it, I had NO IDEA how big these plants would get, so it'll be moving upward one of these days.
I don't mist, or foliar feed anymore as things seem good as they are.
Thanks for the props though. I'm pretty darned stoked that things are rolling along.
Next time, I'm doing a 3 female scrog, since my space seems suited to 3-4 plants.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
OK these plants are getting a little tall...32-33 inches, and those are the side shoots from the bent main stem. The main colas are catching up to the rest of the canopy with the exception of one which continued to grow sideways for 3 inches for whatever reason before turning upward.
Question: I'm using the foxfarms ferts and I've been feeding with every watering since around day 24. Is this good/bad/stupid? The plants don't seem any worse for wear.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Since your plants are starting to flower, check all of them, you may have a male in there out to ruin your crop; also I'd stop stressing them with the bending or you may end up with hermies.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Well, I did wind up with one hermie, but I had some temperature spikes once I installed my HPS. I have since added an exhaust fan (just yesterday) and the temperature recorder didn't get over 80 last night.
I am down to four females, and I've stopped bending them a week and a half ago, so I'm hopeful that I'm going to be able to keep them happy for the next 6 weeks.
I'll snap some photos of them tonight and post em up. The 4 are happy.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
i just wanted to give you props on your new light! nice hood looks high quality what brand?
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Ha, the light is the cheapo from hgtsupply.com, less than 150 shipped 400W HPS, plus the 2 175W MH for the heck of it. I took some new pics of some of the flowering development and the canopy of the remaining 4 plants.
The first picture is the cola of the one plant that I seemed to FIM correctly. The rest just look like ordinary colas so far. Not all of the pictures are of the top colas of each plant, but with the FIM and LST there are some pretty substantial side shoots.
For the record this is day 16 of flower.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Ok, now some of the shoots are out of control growth wise, I'm having to raise the lights up more than I'd like to keep them from burning, and I'm losing some lighting on the shorter, bushier plants which is a bummer...
I've included some pics. The stretchy ones should be easy to see. Any thoughts?

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
It's day 21 of 12/12. Some new pics. I'm going to watch southpark and will check back in with y'all tomorrow.
The first pic is kinda big. This is the budsite post.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Plants here. The first one was my runt, now it's the best of the lot, bushy, even canopy (compared to the others). The second is one of the others, not sure which...

They were dry when these photos were taken.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
plants look pretty good :) buds are starting to develop nicely
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Yeah, I'm really happy with 3 of the 4 plants. I have one that just is growing these weird, airy buds, it's a big plant, it stretched a little, but not more than two of the others which are developing "normally" if not a little slowly.
Here is one macro shot of the top of one of the branches of a happy plant. I'm going to use the tripod tonight to try to get some more depth of field so look for more clarity soon...
Since they're all FIMMED and LST'd they have lots of good tall branches acting as main colas, so no donkey dicks but lotsa buddy branches with nice tops.
I'd do the FIM again, but I only got one of the FIM's right (a branched top rather than a normal one) but my plan is to SCROG the next round topping and topping and topping...
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Just a couple of pics of the beauties, the first is of the 5 or so tops of the hydra, my most evenly canopied plant. I have some others that got ridiculously tall in places...The second is a closeup of one of the tops of another plant.
All of the plants seem to like the molasses.
There is still one plant that just has these airy, thin buds, but I kinda think that's just the way it's gonna be.
Difficult to wait...must hold off...
Do I have to discontinue the foxfarms at some point or can I just keep on truckin' with it through harvest since it's organic?
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
lookin great man, they are filling out nicely. stop using your nutrients a week or two before you harvest.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
nice grow. i think you can keep ferting organics. but id stop 1 week before harvest anyhow..

-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
These photos are from the end of the 51st day of flowering. Some darker hairs forming and I can see trichs on some of the trim leaves. Lotsa big fan leaves turning yellow, being consumed, and I'm pulling them off as they expire. I left some growth down low b/c hash making is surely in the works after this grow...
Enjoy the pics. I'm gonna go study.
-
Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Wow herbalativo those things are looking nice. Have you pulled out a microscope yet and started checkin those trichs? They look like they are still packin on some gurth to me. How long you been off those nutes? Good luck, and if it were me hold out a little longer and let those trichs be your guide. Myne are aound day 55 and most trichs are cloudy with a very small amount of amber.

Mulletman --
Yep, I just ordered a pocket microscope along with a GH ph tester just yesterday, so I will be reading trichs to determine when to harvest. I've been trying to use a 15x pocket loupe but it's way too hard to see anything for long enough to judge colors, just enough to see the trichs.
I pulled an airy bud from the lower area of one of the plants yesterday and have been drying it on my DirecTV receiver (yes, it doubles as a heater) and will try it today. They definitely are still packing it on, some of the tops now have little bud spikes sticking out of the sides and there are very few red hairs, so I think I'm still a ways out. Today is day 54 of flower and judging by other people's pics I'm feeling another couple of weeks of growth here...
skatin_foo15 --
Thanks for the props, it is nice being legal, I actually wound up working out an arrangement with the coop whereby I now act as a caregiver for a nice woman in Pueblo, so I can double the # of plants I can have legally, which will allow me to setup a veg chamber and work on a perpetual harvest.

Fimmed and LST'd by a noober.
Ummmmmmm. I just tried a sample of the most mature looking plant.
I cut off a 5.1 g branch last night (I'm sorry I didn't take a picture.) It dried to be about the size of a lighter or a lighter and a half. It wasn't very big at all but crystally. I dried it in a bag last night which removed one gram of water then I put it on top of our old school in wall gas furnace in an envelope and it dried down to 1.2 g in a few hrs.
I kind of over dried it but WTF I wanted to try some.
I used about 1/2 of it in a pre-rolled blunt cone thing. Smoked it 15 minutes ago. I'm having trouble typing. I'm so happy...
Today is day 64 of flower and I plan on letting them go another watering or two just water and molasses from here on out. I have one plant that is super airy but huge as hell and looks like it wants to go a little longer so I'm going to have to dry the others in the attic.
The trichs on this were mixed clear and milky maybe 40/60 or 30/70 so more shall be revealed as the plants mature.
