Two plants in one pot? Dangers? Benefeits?
Hello there, I have searched for help on this subject but can't really get any results.

I have just started growing 2 Blue Mystic and 2 Jack Herer.

I had the idea of using some council recycling bins due to their large capacity.

(uk readers will know what I mean)

 http://www.wyrebc.gov.uk/Council_Ser..._Green_Box.gif

Under a 500w light, I have two of these boxes with two plants in each one.

I remember hearing that this is not advisable, but cannot remember why.

I also wondered if there are any benefeits to growing like this, aside saving space.

 Many thanks for your help,

 Love Rob.

Hi. i'm still all new to this but i know if you have two plants in the same pot, well the roots will get all tangled up, n basically strangle each other !

With huge bins like that 2 plants is fine. BUT!!!!
The drawbacks are that it's a really inefficient waste of light until they are really big. You should start in SMALL pots and keep them there until they are almost rootbound. If you start a plant in a pot that's too big, it will just grow lots of roots and not really be growing leaves the way you would like to see.
Roots don't strangle each other. They just compete for nutes. I frequently flower 2 plants in one 3 gallon pail if I am cramped for space, or the plants are on the small side. You have to be twice as careful with watering and feeding!

500W? what light is that one?

2 plants per pot is never a good idea unless you are in seedling cycle. Once they get older and start to sex you have a greater chance of one being male (nature has a way of working out how to survive).

Then you need to catch it at the right time or you can have hermies or worse yet your female plant can do to seed quick.

The choice is up to you dude that is my opinion.

 Oooh forgot that one!!!

It's true! If you intend to eventually put them together to flower they MUST be sexed first!

I never knew that about the male/female ratio in one pot. Very interesting!

Two plants in one pot? Dangers? Benefeits?
i am growing two plants in one pot right now (it was Harris7s idea, im not too keen on it myself) and they are both clones from the same plant and both female.

So the only downside then (since i know there will be no males), is that the plants will compete for nutes? Cause if im using synthetic nutes...the plants should have more than enuff. If one plant grows bigger than the other one, will it use up all the nutes and the littler one won't get any? (this last part occurs with people, when 2 babies share the umbillical cord...just wondering if this was the same for plants lol)

You just have to keep them carefully watered... actually they will compete for LIGHT too so prepare to train them.

It's not a great idea but if you gotta do it, you gotta do it.

yeah, like i said i wasn't keen on the idea but Harris wanted to try it out. The two plants are in a 5 gallon pot, and we have already trained them so they're in the general shape of ying and yang. He wanted to try this as an experiment, and also we would have to veg the plant(s) for less time before flowering, cause they're already so big. Anyways, we will see how it goes and I am hoping for the best.

By the way Stinky, u said recently you used leaf humous as a soil base...is this easy to find in stores, and how expensive is it? Or do you have your own compost goin on?

The soil we have been using is essentially peat based, so we are gonna switch real soon.

It comes pre-mixed with composted cow shit at the local farmers supply.. like $3 US for a 40 pound sack... just mix with perlite... add other supplements depending what you want to do with it.

		Thank you people!

To answer the question, the 500w is a metal halide, I will be changing to a 500w sodium for budding.

What do you think about placing a piece of card or plastic in the soil between the two? I know some of those tiny roots will find a way, but perhaps it will help with the root binding thing?

Many thanks again for your helpful insights,

 Love Rob.

Oh and the roots aren't developed enough to be damaged by putting the partition between them.

 Thanks again!

hey again, sorry to bump, my plants are beginning to grow (been in about 5 days) And I didn't want to leave the partition too long if its a good idea as I dont want to disturb roots.

 Thanks again!

It is NOT that you can't do it... IT is just ... just not worth taking the chance when there are already so many chances that need to be taken WHEN growing MARIJUANA.. so if you are gonna risk growing (the plant of GOLD $$$)... you might as well give each plant ITS own container...

if you need to, you can start them in normal pots, (make them pretty big) cut out the bottoms, and put them into those recyclin bins when you go to flower.. other than that, i cant see a way you could benefit.. - good luck
