Anybody with pH utensils do me a solid!
Hey my pH meter's in the mail on the mail but I wanna get started on my new grow (see grow log), but I do have a gallon of distilled water (which I'm going to put into a sprayer/mister) and some pH down.
How many drops/mL of General Hydroponics pH down do I need to put in a half gallon of distilled water to get to 5.5 (around what you should be doing for propagation correct?)
Thank you!

Mr. Buddha.. I would not trust any response you get to this... LOL...
pH down is some powerful SHITE....
IN DO TIME... :) your tester is ON its way!

unless you know the ph of the water you are starting with there is no way to tell but with distilled water 1 drop would probably be too much for a gal as it probably has very low alkalinity which is the buffering capacity against ph changes. you can get a chemical ph tester at any pet store or even at some walmarts and it's only 5 bucks!

I'D STEER AWAY FROM DISTILLED WATER.
IT HAS NOTHING LEFT IN IT.
NO MINERALS, NO TRACE ELEMENTS, NOTHING.
GOOD LUCK

what do yall think of using distilled for flushing?

Agreed.
As well, drop size is different depending on your altitude!
And it can be significant up to 5%.
And 5% makes a big dif with ph down

The pH of distilled water is 7.0.

honestly i would say about 6 drops per gallon, so i would be carefull, distilled water is great for flushing, i ussually just use some poland spring regular non distilled for veggie plants that are weak and my well water for flowering, my water is hard even tho its only 250ppm its loaded wiht calc.

if you put 6 drops of ph down in distilled water which has almost no alkalinity you would probably drop the ph below 4.0 easy. as i said before 1 drop would probably be too much with nothing in there(kh) to buffer the ph!!!

i am a tropical fish breeder so i am very familiar with this subject. i have a 4 stage ro/di unit for my fish/plants. this gives me water that has a ph of 6.0 and a tds of 0-2. i will assume that the tds of distilled water hass the same or close tds and i cannot ad any ph down to my 0-2 tds water without dropping the ph so low that it doesn't even register on my chemical ph test kit which has a low range of 4.0.

I would go with a drop, I use 10-15 ml to drop my 15 gal reservoir 1 point. So I guesstimate around .7ml per gallon...5ml is a teaspoon. Distilled water is better than R.O water period. You need to add cal-mag to both.
Perfect distilled water in a perfect world has a PH of 7 there is many variables though...normally it will be more acidic from picking up atmospheric gases I would say its normally closer to 6 than 7.
I use GH PH down BTW....but I still would wait. If you dont id bet on more harm than good.

OK...Advanced Nutrients and all growers who use ROwater are idiots I guess! HUH?
You start with niothing and add the "correct" things. geeezzzzzz:confused:

If you are using GH 3-part then 3-part has buffers...And If you put the correct amount of 3-part in distilled water you will be very close to *5.8ph which is the correct ph for hydro.
*I propagate w/tap water from my well, and do not adjust the ph. If you have no roots...Then you cannot hurt the plant with normal water.
So, If you are using just the water for clones or seeds...I would say...Don't add phdown
Otherwise, if you are adding nutes...what nutes? are you using it for?
