the only thing those lights are good for is keeping your reptiles happy, they love MV bulbs, plants however dont.
looking at the specs from 1000bulbs.com, the merc-vapors had a color temp of between 3200K-5700K, depending on particular bulb (suitable more for vegging) ... the lumens were decent, too, BUT ... there may be a heat issue with them ... not sure, but I think I've heard that somewhere before ... that's all I can tell ya ...
thanks for the info. i have an hps but i had never heard of mercury vapor lights before. just wondered if they were decent or worthless. what does anybody know/think about led grow lights?:rasta:
Hightimes says good for veg not any better then floro.
i think they put out more heat than light:twocents:
i had three 150's. the 20$ flourecent fixture put them to shame...
yes they get very hot.
hehehe... Half of my CFLs have the little Hg symbol on them, so I guess technically they're mercury vapour lights.Quote:

So, as with all HID lights, it depends on the spectrum.
Mercury Vapor will work, but not nearly as efficiently as MH or HPS. MV was used in the old days as an alternative to fluoros. I wouldn't recommend Mercury Vapor HID's.
mvs produce more uv than mh or hps and are a decent suppliment for Hps during budding . The higher UV is the reason for the heat issues with MV. I would never use a mv for vegging or flowering a lone but it is a cheaper source for supplimental light than mh. And I remember reading on OG that mh bulbs will work with a mv ballast but I have no way of verifing that.
