It's nothing particularily new. Many people have "proven" the bible by it's "astonishingly accurate" prophecies. Unfortunately, many of the prophecies are things that are a) vague b) inevitable to happen at some point, and c)open to interpretation as one sees fit. Here's some listed:
"The Bible gives us over 50 descriptions about the people at the time of the end. Here are some:"
Wicca has been practices for thousands of years, and it's pagan roots go further back than christianity. Per capita, I highly doubt there are particularily more Wiccan's than many other points in history. Regardless, the Wicca religion is not a "devil worship" religion. Rather, Christian doctrine seems to declare any non-monotheistic religion to be evil because it doesn't pander to their personal god. Paganism was particularily targetted because it was the prominant and obvious counter-faith in European society, but many other paths such as Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto, and Shamanism follow a similar path and do not acknoledge the rulership of the one almighty god. Buddhism, btw, predates Jesus by 500 years and has had many periods where it's followers largely outnumbered Christians, Jews, or Muslims.Quote:
A. Some would depart from the faith and go into devil worship-1 Tim 4:1. This is perfect. Reportedly in Great Britain alone, there are about 35,000 professing witches.
OMG it's true, tonnes of people these days have no conscience! I mean back in the day when Ghengis Khan was conquering the known world, he at least felt bad about the millions of people he slaughtered... honestly....Quote:
B. People would have no conscience-1 Tim 4:1,2.
.Quote:
C. People would mock about the last days and not believe-2 Pe 3:3; Jude 18
You mean people actually questioned the dominant theocracy once they could do so without persecution? Such startling accuracy, who could have seen it coming?
These just keep getting lamer. Selfishness, glutony, greed, these aren't exactly distinct products of the industrial age.Quote:
D. People would become lovers of themselves-2 Tim 3:1,2. Remember the TV commercials????I do it for me??
A wise man 5,000 years ago also said teenage boys would jack off. OMG IT'S ALL HAPPENING!Quote:
E. People would be disobeying their parents-2 Tim 3:1,2.
Depends on the person. Seriously, does this site-author actually think these things are new?Quote:
F. People would be grateful for nothing-2 Tim 3:1,2.
How could we even measure the rate of homosexuality when we killed/imprisoned/excommunicated people for it if we found out? Homosexuality is also prominant in every mamilian species, maybe they're all going to hell as well. Though I find there's a distinct lack of explanation as to why being gay makes you an evil person, I personally think it's a product of cultural beliefs inserted into the region's holy text (you'll notice with ALL theistic beliefs, culture invariably inserts itself into religious doctrine).Quote:
G. Homosexuality would increase-Lk 17:28,30; ref Gen 19:5; Ro 1:24,26,27.
Of course, because it's the natural biological drive in each and every one of us, and every other species. IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT BIOLOGICAL MECHANISM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SURVIVAL OF EVERY SPECIES. The sexual revolution is the product of a society waking up to the fact that religion has artificially made our most natural instinct an evil and shamefull thing, which makes no more sense than being ashamed of shitting, eating, or our innate nature to nurture our offspring.Quote:
H. People would be without self-control in sex-2 Tim 3:1,2,6; Rev 9:21, Lk 17:28,30; Jude 7. Is this not the great sex generation?
.Quote:
I. People would be untrustworthy, friends would betray friends-2 Tim 3:1-3
I'm a profit too, watch: "....and in 1,000 years, men will be consumed with greed to the point of stealing from family and friends". When that happens in 1,000 years, everybody will worship me. It's not like this is inevitable or anything.

Every single living organism loves pleasure based on the stimulation of receptors activating the reward centers of the brain. Add that to anybody who, like myself, believes God is an illogical concept, and lo and behold we enjoy pleasure more than god. Heck, even if you do believe in god, overcoming your biology is not a common occurence.Quote:
People would love pleasures more than God-2 Tim 3:1,2,4.
Just like they always have. Whether it be extreme stimulation of reward centeres of the brain, or deep mental exploration, or just curiosity, how could humanity NOT be interested in drugs?Quote:
K. People would be taking drugs-Rev 9:21.
Because I'm capable of basic reasoning skills and am not impressed by discustingly predictable prophecies that anybody with an IQ of 80 could see coming. I'm very disappointed by the authors intelligence; not in relation to me or atheists, but in relation to other theists with arguments that at least show some thought above that of a 5 year old.Quote:
God??s Word is 100% right on every one. That??s 7 out of 7. How could you have any doubts at this point?
Well what I cute little website. Same old evangelical shit, nothing new.
There is no proof of the bible being the truth.
Clearly the author has no clue how the bible was written and the Politics behind what was put in the bible.
Please don't waist your time praying for me. Try doing something nice for someone that needs it.
For your information the rapture is not in the bible.
As I am not a Christan I find it hilarious how so many of you christians do not even understand the history of how the bible was written.
It is even more humorous how some of you have not even read what the bible says. You just take what someone says about it at face value without questioning or learning it for yourself.
Thanks for the laugh.
please don't confuse the OT wich if 100% true with the NT wich isn't.
please leave my soul out of this. i'm saving my soul, i'm gonna make a desk lamp out of it later.Quote:

Proof the Bible is not 100% true:
It has been scientifically proven that humanity, with all its genetic diversity, did not start a few thousand years ago with two spontaneously created modern-looking human beings and their incestuous children.
It doesn't matter how many vague prophecies the Bible contains; we can say for certain that the Bible contains false statements. The question is, how many? Given the vagueness of the prophecies, I would venture to say that the writers of the Bible did not have any psychic future-predicting powers any more than the writers of the Qur'an, the Book of Mormon, or Dianetics.
If you know what life is worth, you will look for yours on Earth.

How backwards do you need to be to beleive in that shit. If you believe that a man(JONAS) lived in a whale for (30 days?) and was spit out of its mouth onto a beach, and #1 he didnt dehydrate within 5 days. or #2 he didnt go hungry or #3 the whale didnt swallow him, sorry i shouldn't say swallow during a jewish story its just not kosher.
then I WANT WHAT YOUR SMOKING!
Wow, what a title for a threadQuote:

2) Nothing can prove the bible is true, Nothing. Few people even assert that it can be proven because is so obvious that it cannot be.
3) Regardless, if you could prove some aspects of the bible. These ??valid? aspects do not legitimize the other events, claims and stories. They are all independent. And must be judged individually.
I may look at that website in the future. But if you want me to comment on the ??Argument? posted on that website you must make it your self, and probably defend it

Christians should spend less time worshiping a stupid book and more time being nice to others. I stopped going to church because I simply don't see the purpose of going to a building where everyone pretends they are a good person, then once you get in the parking lot everyone is ready to run you over with their car to get out. It also seems completely hypocritical to claim being a Christian, but support wars. I'm not saying I'm against the war on terror, Iraq, or any of that, I'm just saying true christianity is letting evil people kill you. Most modern "Christians" are far from the Christians that were hung on crosses thousands of years ago.
I really can't stand the "typical" Christian that calls other people sinners, it says somewhere in the bible to not do stuff like that yet people do. People will live their life however they want, they only take parts of the Bible they want to fit their personality. Angry people will take the parts about Gods fury and ignore the other parts of love and forgiveness.
I really think people's religion is their own personal issue, most of my friends are atheist and I have no problem with that because they accept me even if I believe in a God. Yet most religious people only associate with others of their own belief, which I think is just retarded.
By the way, Jonas was in the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights.Quote:

and P.S.... I'm Catholic and I don't understand why they try and shove it down everyones throat. If you believe in it...you believe in it. If you don't, you don't. No one should bash each others beliefs just because you think yours are right.
P.S. Volume II...you can't prove that the Bible is true or not true. So this thread should just end now.

Mr. Devious, thank you for summarizing what would be my argument... basically, a small amount of the same reasoning we use to tell the difference between apples and oranges is enough to find the problem with almost all prophecies (Bible included) made ever.

It bothers me, to the core, because we continuously keep humanity in a state of ignorance where true critical reasoning skills are never taught or understood by most. And because most people don't develope solid critical thinking skills, we continue to have massive injustice on this planet with things ranging from schoolyard bullying, to unjust wars, to a public that's easily manipulated by deceptive politicians who can twist their minds in the direction of their bullshit, to unjust policies like the war on drugs, to suppression of minority beliefs, to every subject that people have been bullshitted on and convinced to believe. Religion is one of the biggest and most influencial ways that we condition our minds to keep ourselves from utilizing our incredible intelligence. It turns open minds into narrow views, it keeps us from questioning everything, it keeps humanity from the ultimate goal of understanding our universe and existence to the fullest extent and solving our problems of our own accord and ingenuity. Religion has been a major hinderance to human progress throughout all history, even most theists would have to admit that.
If the voice of ignorance is the only one people hear, that's as far as most will think, which is why I debate on the small hope that somebody will read these arguments and have two sides to consider, and hopefully balance them with reason and intelligence.
same man took one look at it giggled and closed lolQuote:

When I saw this thread I was hoping for either a historical argument. Yes the bible is a historical document. The names and ancestries can be traced in history.
Or I was looking for a personal argument on how the bible changed someones life on a meaningful way.
I am not against Christians. In fact I think some of the ideas on morality can help and guide people. Most Christians I believe are good people.
What I do have a problem with is people who use fear and guilt to spread their propaganda.
For you Evangelistic Christians out there: No one will no the time. Remember "Thief in the night". It is in the bible look it up. I shouldn't have to tell you where to find it.
If the bible works for you in your life. More power to you.
I do hope that some of you research the history of how the bible was put together. You will learn there was a lot of political power games going on.
Things and documents were changed and entire books were not included. The people who wrote it had an agenda. They were looking out for their own power and control over the people.
If the bible makes an impact on you life...Cool! If it empowers you that is great.
But don't use interpretive prophecy to make your argument.
not saying that this means everything is true or that is it not but...
the tests used to gauge historical accuracy of the information that makes it to our text books, is the same used to check the historical accuracy of the books in the Bible... and the majority of the books in the Bible pass the tests with flying colors in comparrison to much of what is in our history books...
now i don't know if this is a plus for the Bible or a big negative for our records of history... whatever it is, there is some info...
Do you have any idea of how censored your history texts are…
I think you made a great comparison between text books and the bible.
Lots of censorship.
We really need to accept that no one can prove the bible is “true”
It is impossible. We can prove the accuracy of individual stories, or that some of the people in this text were “real”. But that doesn’t prove anything.
Everyone needs to see the gaping logical gap between finding out people mentioned in the book existed and concluding that there is a supernatural being.
For serious people
its called the switch and bait technique, harris.
there is a little bit of truth and a whole lot of lies.
i believe that most of what we hear is censored... do you think this travels over to science at all... or is science free of deceit or blemish???
do you even need to ask this?Quote:

I would say no there isn??t censorship in science.Quote:

And mechanisms to prevent the spread of biased information.
Ie- peer review process, public criticism and so on
Science doesn??t want bias and it has been structured as best as we can to prevent it.
One cannot say the same about religion
this has already been said but leave my "soul" out of this.
Praying for me isn't going to do anything. Don't waste your time.
