PRE FLOWERS OPENEDâ?¦ male ones

Do male preflowers have viable pollen? I didnâ??t know preflowers could open and pollinate. I have a little male and I was just vegging him until we had the equipment to seal him off and flower it.

But itâ??s frickin flower opened. Has this pollinated my females?

Iâ??m going to go spray them all down with water and hope. Two girls are only 2and 3 weeks in 4 others are 7.5. Fuck this

the strain we are talking about is called BC Big Bang. As far as we know it doesn't auto-flower....we weren't expecting this to happen at all (obviously). ahhhhhh

Should I cut him down and string him up in view of the others. To set an example?

Hmm, were left leaner, so were more about harm reduction (spraying water), prevention (treating the plants nicely) and education. But sometimes a little enforcement is necessary

it is my understanding that preflowers can pollinate a grow. i don't make seeds so i always toss males as soon as they show. i have been told that once a male peflower shows you have 10-14 days till it opens. correct me if i'm wrong as i have not seen this 1st hand it's just what a fellow grower told me once. if i were you i would get rid of it. hanging it in veiew of the girls will only chance futher pollination. i would like to hear the outcome whatever it may be. i hope it didn't seed your girls!!!! although if its only 1 or 2 flowers then the plants won't be heavily seeded even if they did pollinate. good luck

hey, thanks for the reply. i have since found out (you can read it in my grow log, stuff posted today) that males flower even in the veg cycle. i was under the impression that they needed 12/12 light just like females do to flower, but alas, i was mistaken. i guess the advancement of their balls should have been a big hint, oh well, lol. we have sort of come to terms with the fact that a few of our plants may be pollinated, and we aren't too bummed about it cause the strains are really good and would breed some sweet seeds. also, our buddy is going to come pick up our males tonight and take them to his place where they can grow freely and later have thier pollen harvested for future breeding. anyways, stop by the log and you can read some more about breeding/males...also about the company advanced nutrients (who we use) if you're interested!

pollen Sacks or bananas need to burst first from every thing I know and have read and it is a powdery substance that you can see on your hand. Me and people I know keep male mother plants, meaning keeping the male in veg for months on end untill we want some pollen from the strain then we cutt off a clone, flower it out untill it has sacks and collect the pollen. Throughout the veg the male still has his male preflowers and can be in the same cab as female clones and mothers with know problems.

Hey BlueBear, Thanks. The problem for us is that we have a veg and flowering room very close to each other. Luckly we only have two plants that are able to be pollinated. the others too old. Harvesting in a week.

It would be great if you droped by the grow long and let us know what you think.

We are following some controversial information from “the yeag”

We aren’t going to “flush” the soil with 3x the volume. Instead were going to just feed them pH’ed water for 10 days; as much as they can take.
(any thoughs?)

Also, We are considering cutting off all the fan leafs for the last 5 days of growth.
The Yeag believes that they don’t serve a purpose then, light can get on the buds. And the plant will think it’s being eaten and resin up.
(were only going to do this to 1 or 2 plants.)

OK, I read threw the last 2 pages of your thread, but will post here for what ever reason. 1. I feed every feeding with nutes and don't have any problems, but I will say that in my exp this can be strain and nute dependent, some nutes run hot and will burn your plants while the GH 3 part schedule I am using works for a constant feed and with coco coir, the medium that I am converting my whole garden over to, you feed every watering any way, but none the less I do the same in soil, but I use allot of perlite in my mix so the soil does not hold as much salt build up as a mix with less perlite. Also, if you can manage to get a 5% run off when watering you push some of the salt build up out any way and past that you just watch your plants and they will tell you if they are being over ferted.
With the 10 days of PH water I think that it can work fine, but I would still shoot for a little run off, but I would not cut off all of the fan leaves because even in those last 5 days you are still experiencing important growth and those leaves will be the only source of food that the plant has since you will not be feeding via nutes and the overall yield and quality may suffer IMO. I mean, how can the buds swell up if there is no nutrients for photo synthesis to take place? Nutrients isn't generaly thought to be stored in the stems, only a path for the nutes to travel threw, but the Yeags exp may be as such that he has noticed a increase when doing this, since I have never, I can only conjecture.
I use to leave my plants in darkness after the cycle, but I have found that the idea of a 5% resin increase is subjective IMO and have listened to gurus on both ends and have not noticed a difference in my exp.
We are surrounded by many hippy myths and sometimes it is hard to figure out what's what, but I hope I helped some.

thanks for all that BlueBear, i liked how you reasoned thru everything instead of just saying "do this" or "don't do that". there are so many decisions to make at this stage of the game as a new grower, but i guess that's what's so fun- experimentation!

Not a problem. Reason/critical thinking is a nice thing and comes in handy. We do tend to treat this growing thing like a religion and put our faith in anyone with some decent pics and allot of posts.

Thanks, I think we will remove the fan leafs on one plant, as an experiment.
We have two plants of the same strain, same age, and almost exactly the same growth pattern. Its a good opportunity to try something. I will document it well on the grow log
